TITLE: Multi-Skilled Maintenance Worker III- Plumber
JOB GOAL:
Under general supervision to perform a variety of skilled craft work in the maintenance and up keep of school buildings, facilities, and miscellaneous equipment; performs skilled craft work in one or more of the building and maintenance trades; to perform skilled work in assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing pipes, fittings, and fixtures pertaining to heating, water and drainage systems; and to do other related work required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs skilled maintenance, repair, and construction work in the basic trades, such as carpentry, electrical, painting, and heating/air conditioning.
2. Analyzes problem areas and determines courses of action necessary for the installation, construction, repair, and maintenance of school buildings, facilities, grounds, and equipment.
3. Installs general plumbing systems and maintains as well as repairs existing systems.
4. Installs, maintains, and repairs various types of water heating and boiler units and systems.
5. Installs water and waste piping.
6. Repairs and replaces pipes and control valves, fittings, and a variety of other fixtures.
7. Cleans and removes obstructions from drains, water, and sewer systems.
8. Tests safety equipment and boiler water.
9. Estimates labor and material costs.
10. Plans, organizes, and lays out work in accordance with blueprints, schematics, and building code requirements.
11. May operate a back hoe, tractor, trencher, or similar equipment.
12. Coordinates and directs the work of others.
13. Requisitions and maintains an adequate inventory of parts, supplies, and materials.
14. Drives a service vehicle to and from the work site.
15. May be called in to work evenings and weekends on an overtime basis.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical requirements indicated below are examples of the physical aspects that this position classification must perform in carrying out essential job functions.
· Persons performing service in this position classification will exert 75 to 100 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
· This type of work may involve ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps, and will involve crawling, reaching, bending, stooping walking, or standing for extended periods.
· Perceiving the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, providing oral information, the manual dexterity to operate equipment and use hand tools, and handle and work with various materials and objects are important aspects of this job.
· Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by weather may occasionally be experienced.
· Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable a person with a disability to perform the essential functions of the job.
· Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier.
· Must receive asbestos awareness training within the first 60 days of employment. The District provides training. May receive additional ACBM training if the employee works in an area in which asbestos building materials may be disturbed.
· Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and skill may be qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be:
1. Two years of experience as a journey level in one or more trades with emphasis in the plumbing area.
2. Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by coursework or training in
plumbing codes, laws, methods and techniques.
3. Knowledge of:
· Methods, materials, tools, and equipment utilized in the plumbing trade.
· Applicable building codes and regulations.
· Safe working methods and procedures.
4. Ability to:
· Skillfully install, maintain, and repair plumbing fixtures and systems.
· Work from blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, and schematics.
· Plan, lay out, and coordinate the work with others.
· Accurately estimate labor and material costs.
· Maintain simple records and files, and prepare complete and concise reports.
· Understand and carry put oral and written directions.
· Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
· Work courteously and tactfully with co-workers, public, pupils, and parents.
