JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction and supervision of the President, supervises all corporate financial matters and is responsible for the financial well-being of the organization by providing financial projections and accounting services, preparing growth plans, and directing accounting staff.
JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for a variety of tasks and duties, which may include, but would not be limited to, the following :
- Provide leadership, direction and management of the Accounting Department. Lead, manage, and mentor department managers. Establish annual and long-range departmental goals.
- Responsible for all financial reporting on a timely basis. Ensure that effective internal controls are in place. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, federal, state and local regulatory laws, rules for financial, and tax reporting.
- Oversees cash management and investment needs. Maximizes return on invested funds. Develops and maintains long-range financial plan as part of a capital improvement plan.
- Develops finance organizational strategies, analysis, and recommendations that support organizational objectives. Provides data and direction on the financial condition of the company and supports the executive team in decision-making.
- Develops and maintains banking and bondholder relationships. Forecasts, solicits, and negotiates long and short-term capital financing.
- Oversees the accuracy and timely completion of federal, state, and local income and sales taxes, as well as monthly income tax accruals, estimated quarterly payments and year-end federal and state returns. Directs the preparation and filing of 5500 reports for 401(k) and benefit plans.
- Provide strategic recommendations to the President and other members of the executive management team.
- Comply with national and local financial requirements by studying existing and new legislation and taking appropriate action.
- Maximize return on invested funds by identifying investment opportunities and maintaining relationships with the investment community.
- In collaboration with the Vice President – Rates and Revenue provides written and oral testimony, financial schedules, and other analysis in the company’s general rate case and cost of capital applications.
- Develop studies related to growth, industry threats, and statistical comparisons with other utilities.
- Perform cost benefit studies for company projects and / or valuation of acquisitions.
- Prepares and presents written and oral reports in quarterly and annual meetings with the Board of Directors.
- Other tasks and duties as directed.
