What are the responsibilities and job description for the EMERGENCY RESOURCE RN position at San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital?
POSITION SUMMARY:
- The Emergency Department Resource RN coordinates/provides nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary, nursing, and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. The ED Resource RN will serve as a preceptor and charge nurse, including floating to units such as ICU, DOU, and PACU.
- The Emergency Department provides emergency medical service to individuals from all age groups as needed. Therefore, the ED Resource RN must be competent to provide care to patients in the following age groups: infant, toddler, school-age, teenage, adult, senior, and geriatric. The ED Resource RN must be able to access developmental needs across the life span and be able to adjust care accordingly to meet physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs. They must be knowledgeable in recognizing changes in condition, signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect, and cognizant of safety issues, both environmentally and medical.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Licensure:
- Possesses current California RN license.
- Current BLS Certification.
- Current ACLS Certification.
- Current PALS Certification.
- NIHSS Stroke Scale certification.
- Experience:
- 2 years of recent health care experience in an acute hospital setting.
- Prefer to have at least one year’s experience in an emergency room within the last 18 months.

- The ideal candidate will have strong clinical knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
- Demonstrates an attitude of co-operation and professionalism.
- Superb verbal and written communication skills to share updates with patients and other medical staff.
- Computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong analytical thinking and the ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
- Excellent customer service skills to provide ongoing support for patients and their families.
- Able to work in, manage and deal with stressful situations.
- Speak, read and write English to safely and effectively perform patient care services.
