POSITION SUMMARY:
The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist, with independent judgment and initiative, performs prescribed MRI Scan studies on patients utilizing a high field strength magnet. Responsible for performing MRI safety screening on patients prior to the study and ensures MRI Safety protocols are consistently followed by everyone entering the mobile MRI unit.
The MRI Technologist coordinates patient flow and the schedule of the MRI Scanner with the DI department, the ED and the nursing units. Performs related duties as assigned.
Responsible for demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide MRI services appropriate to the age of the patients. Cognizant of safety issues, both environmental and medical. Must be competent to obtain images and perform MRI Scan studies with adults and geriatric patients as well as children. Responsible for adjusting protocols as necessary and for communicating instructions appropriate to the specific needs of the patient. Must be knowledgeable in recognizing signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect in the adult, geriatric, or pediatric patient.
The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist meets hospital continuing education requirements by enhancing professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops, as well as association groups.
REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of an JRCERT approved school of Radiologic Technology program. State registered/licensed Radiologic Technologist in the State of California in good standing, as well as fluoroscopy license and AART. Six months to one-year prior experience as a MR Technologist preferred. BLS Certification required. Must have ARRT in Radiology, prefer MR ARRT.
