Summary
The SEVIS University Officer is responsible for ensuring the university's compliance with U.S. immigration regulations and SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) requirements. This position serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the university.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage and maintain the university's SEVIS database, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of data entry.
2. Advise and counsel international students, scholars, and university departments on immigration regulations and SEVIS requirements.
3. Process and issue I-20s, DS-2019s, and other immigration documents for international students and scholars.
4. Monitor and report student and scholar immigration status changes to SEVIS.
5. Coordinate with university departments to ensure compliance with immigration regulations and SEVIS requirements.
6. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure university compliance with immigration regulations and SEVIS requirements.
7. Collaborate with the university's admissions and registrar's offices to ensure accurate and timely reporting of student enrollment and attendance.
8. Provide training and support to university staff and faculty on SEVIS and immigration regulations.
9. Maintain records and files related to international students and scholars, ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
10. Stay up-to-date with changes in immigration regulations and SEVIS requirements, applying this knowledge to ensure university compliance.
Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., international education, higher education administration).
2. Experience working with international students and scholars in a higher education setting.
3. Knowledge of U.S. immigration regulations and SEVIS requirements.
4. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management software.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Master's degree in a related field preferred.
2. Experience as a DSO or ARO.
3. Certification in international student advising (e.g., NAFSA Certified Credential).
4. Fluency in a language other than English.
