About The SJCOE SELPA
The San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) operates the San Joaquin County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) to serve students from birth to age 22, who are enrolled in SJCOE's Special Education programs in Lincoln, Manteca, Escalon, Ripon, Linden, Lammersville, and Tracy Unified Districts, as well as Banta, Jefferson, and New Jerusalem Elementary School Districts. San Joaquin County SELPA coordinates special education efforts to ensure that resources are placed to meet student needs and provide services to students, families, and staff in school districts with fewer resources. San Joaquin County SELPA support is provided to these districts upon request and may include consultation and/or direct service. San Joaquin County SELPA acts as an interagency liaison and bridge between community resources and student needs. San Joaquin County SELPA has been in operation providing support to students, families, and districts since 1981.
Job Summary
Under direction of management personnel and certificated staff, assist certificated staff in the instruction, supervision and training of individuals or groups of students (average ages 1 1/2 to 22 years) with a variety of special education needs; perform a variety of instructional services within a well-defined framework of policies and procedures; provide a range of instructional training experiences in a variety of educational environments which may include specific classrooms, learning centers, vocational programs, the community and/or other instructional facilities; may serve students with any or a combination of, the following conditions: intellectual disability; severe physical/medical involvement; communication disorders (to include non-verbal); hearing/vision impairment; learning disorders; emotional disturbances; behavior disorders and to perform related duties as assigned. Instructional Assistant works closely with teacher and follows detailed instruction and/or established practices and procedures on most duties. Contact with others primarily includes certificated staff, COE employees, parents, and other school district staff.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Equivalent of the completion of the twelfth grade.
- Demonstrate proficiency in basic reading, writing and math skills at a level required for high school seniors: Proof of AA or BA Degree from a regionally accredited college, 48 Semester units with a C- or better, OR Successful completion of the basic proficiency test approved and administered by Human Resources of the SJCOE).
