Description

Manage, plan, and direct overall operations of the Welcome Center at a large community college campus. With a focus on increasing student success, this includes but is not limited to the administration of onboarding activities for students, providing information regarding programs of study, providing appropriate student placement information, providing information to community members, maintaining support services focused on successfully transitioning students to the college, and connecting students with appropriate supports. Lead, plan, implement, and assess strategies necessary to provide effective and exceptional student service in collaboration with Enrollment Services units, Counseling, Instruction, and key campus partners. Support student success outcomes by ensuring the center meets productivity, quality, and customer-service standards.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general direction from the assigned dean; exercises independent judgment in the interpretation and application of applicable college, state and national policies and procedures.

Directs, coordinates, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned staff.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Supervises, coordinates, trains and schedules work load for Welcome Center staff; oversee the daily operations of the Welcome Center.

Schedule on-campus an.d off site student onboarding activities in conjunction with Enrollment Services, Counseling, Strong Workforce, Student Outreach and other key departments.

Serves as the liaison to district instructional units regarding the development of accurate course placement procedures, the maintenance and updating of student databases, and collaborating with the appropriate academic units to establish and update polices for placement.

Serves as a liaison to district instructional units regarding academic and career pathways in order to help students transition into the college and select a program of study.

Performs technical and professional work in the planning, coordination, and implementation of complex print, computerized, and online testing programs and other assigned enrollment activities.

Participate in the selection, training, and evaluation of assigned staff.

Consults and collaborates with enrollment services professionals, deans and chairs in the development of departmental goals related recruitment, strategies, and enrollment goals.

Collects, analyzes, and submits data; prepare and present various reports to key stakeholders.

Develops and presents information to students, employers, school districts, and community-based agencies about services and resources.

Develops, implements, and assesses annual program goals.

Collaborates to provide integrated instructional and student services that meet the needs of and promote the success of a diverse student population.

Attends statewide meetings and relevant professional development activities to maintain knowledge and skills related to assessment.

Assists with budget development; monitors assigned budget; initiates purchase requisitions; plans staffing and other related expenditures according to budget parameters.

Remains current on placement innovations in the community college setting.

Maintain a welcoming environment that promotes excellent customer service.

Performs other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Knowledge of :

  • Principles, methods, and techniques of onboarding a diverse student population utilizing diversity networks and resources.
  • Principles of establishing and maintaining effective community relationships.

    Current trends in college testing, and placement.

    District mission, organization, services, operations, policies and objectives.

    Methods of collecting and organizing data and information.

    Effective oral and written communication skills.

    Principles and practices of budget oversight and control.

    Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

    Principles of record-keeping, research and report preparation.

    Demographics of the District.

    Policies, procedures, regulations relevant to student onboarding and placement services.

    Trends and issues in California higher educational systems.

    Relevant federal and state laws.

    Ability to :

  • Work with a diverse population representing a wide range of abilities, ages, nationalities, and cultures; work in a collaborative environment of shared decision making.
  • Plan and organize special events.

    Prepare and deliver oral and written presentations.

    Independently manage and prioritize workload, demands, and time.

    Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others using interpersonal skills such as tact, patience and courtesy.

    Work cooperatively with students, staff, corporate partners, local businesses, government agencies, and other educational partners and professional organizations.

    Lead, plan, organize, develop, and evaluate programs, activities and services.

    Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

  • Effectively use computers and computer applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and FileMaker Pro.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

    Education and Experience Requirements :

    Education :

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with major coursework in Education, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.

    Experience :

    Three (3) years of directly related experience, including at least one (1) year of previous leadership or supervisory experience. Experience in a higher education environment or public agency highly preferred.

    License / Certification :

    A valid Class "C" California Driver's License.
