Introduction
0125 PT Radiologic Technologist I by Employment Services TeamTYPICAL DUTIES
- Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic x-ray films; determines the correct exposure factors on the basis of height, weight, portion of body involved and degree of penetration required; selects appropriate cones and screens to reduce secondary radiation and fogging; sets machine control and exposes the required number and type of film.
- Learns to assist Radiologist in fluoroscopic and other minor interventional x-ray procedures; assembles equipment; measures and mixes barium and contrast media; maintains surveillance over patients, performs radiographs as necessary for the radiographic procedure.
- Records patient information, patient identification numbers, and number and type of views taken in-patient log; maintains records as required.
- Demonstrates procedures to students; monitors students' performance of procedures, correcting faulty technique and explaining appropriate methods.
- May receive on-the-job instructions in mammography and related quality control and quality assurance documentation.
- Develops exposed film using automatic processors.
KNOWLEDGE
Methods and techniques of diagnostic radiography; various anatomical positions used in radiography; and care and use of radiographic equipment; and safety practices to prevent overexposure to radiation.ABILITY
Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, manual dexterity sufficient to administer procedures and operate equipment, bend, stoop and lift patients; understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions in exact detail; demonstrate the operation of x-ray equipment in practical work situations; position patients for a variety of radiography procedures; work effectively with medical staff, patients, and co-workers; and maintain records.PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Selection Procedures
Applicants for part-time and temporary recruitments who meet the minimum qualifications are either referred to the hiring department for further selection or they may be required to take a written examination. If a written examination is given, the top candidates may be referred to the hiring department for further selection.
