Position Overview
The Lead Security Officer helps oversee the training and efficiency of the 24-hour security officer staff. This position is responsible for the physical security of SAP Center and Sharks Ice San Jose/TechCU Area as well as the parking areas for both venues.
The Lead will assist the Supervisor in scheduling the 24-hour security staff, training the staff, enforcement of policies and procedures, conducting post inspections, and guard against unauthorized entry and activities. The Lead Security Officer monitors CCTV, alarms, issues ID cards, conducts and monitors audits and helps patrol SSE property and any parking lots under our control through foot patrols and using our electric vehicle fleet.
A key responsibility of this position is to control admission to SSE venues in general and especially during events by performing metal detector, x-raying bags, performing hand check of bags, checking ID cards and credentials of employees and others, interacting well with employees, the public and all vendors in the Arena. Additional responsibility is to audit log entries and other written reports/memos as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform security patrols of SSE property on foot or in vehicle; document detailed observations of unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards.
- De-escalation of situations involving guests or staff
- Assist with evacuations during fires, medical emergencies, and natural disasters.
- Sound alarms or call police or fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
- Warn violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles. Enforcement of 602PC trespass laws.
- Permit authorized persons to enter property and monitor entrances and exits; ensure only authorized individuals enter and exit, and that no contraband is brought in.
- Observe departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensures that only authorized removal of company property is occurring.
- Investigate and prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities; maintain written logs as required.
- Assist in hiring, training, scheduling, assignment, and coaching and counseling of the SAP Center Security Officers.
- Answer the phone, emails, teams chat and monitor radio traffic for updated information.
- Train security officers in security/safety related to incidents/emergencies and train staff on their roles and responsibilities.
- Train security officers in security screening and the use of weapons detection systems such as Magnetometers and X-Ray Machines.
- Train security officers on the use of security systems such as but not limited to camera systems, computer systems and radios
- Verify, issue and confirm all credentials of anyone entering SAP Center and Tech CU Arena.
- Write and review incident reports for accuracy and effectiveness.
- Conduct a daily post inspection on each officer.
- Communicate and Enforce Performance Standards for Security officers.
- Security of Facility
- On-going operation of alarm systems including maintenance and troubleshooting and using electronic access control
- Ensure all foot traffic is screened using the Magnetometer and/or hand wanding, as well as physically searching bags and tagging them with the proper bands for the day.
- Set up and monitor radio equipment for Security.
- Implement facility emergency preparedness plans.
- Administrative
- Maintain files, records, and logs consistent with the needs of Security and other departments for historical information.
- Establish and maintain computerized records including incident reports, employee roster, and vehicle entry logs.
- Prepare and submit timely reports including payroll and other data relative to department operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current driver's license
- Minimum of two (2) years of verifiable employment history relating to customer service or the protective service industry (preferably security, military, law enforcement, or corrections)
- Able to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors.
- Demonstrated ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Service in Military Occupational Specialty related to law enforcement, security (such as Military Police, Elite Military Forces, combat arms) or any support role in a Combat Zone
- Graduate of a Certified Public Safety Academy (military or civilian) or verified work experience in the law enforcement, adult corrections, or firefighter field.
- Bachelor's degree in law enforcement or criminal justice related studies
- A minimum of 8 or more years of service in any military branch
- Associate's degree (or 60 credits) or higher in law enforcement or criminal justice with current or prior active military service
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and crouch for extended periods of time.
- Ability to bend at the waist, reach overhead and lift up to 45lbs with or without accommodation.
- Physically navigate stairs and catwalks at SSE facilities during normal work hours and events with or without accommodation
- Ability to go up and down stairs multiple times in a shift.
- Physical stamina to manage security duties in a large, crowded environment, including the ability to quickly respond to emergencies.
- Capacity to work in varying weather conditions and environments, both indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to perform quick movements, including running short distances, to address security concerns or emergencies.
- Capability to remain alert and focused during long shifts, ensuring vigilance in monitoring surroundings.
- Dexterity to operate security equipment, including communication devices and surveillance systems.
