POSITION SUMMARY:
The Dentist works as part of the dental provider team providing dental services to the patients of the Rosenberg Clinic location. The staff dentist performs complex dental work, including hygiene, which involves providing for the dental care, treatment, preventive services, and welfare of patients. The Dentist will also be responsible for providing appropriate oral health information to individuals and groups. May be responsible for the supervision of dental staff.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides dental services to patients, including to but not limited to examination, extractions, restorations, endodontics, dental prostheses, as appropriate, and diagnoses and treats oral lesions
- Coordinates the implementation of dental functions in order to meet patient care needs and industry and agency standards
- Obtains baseline assessment data based upon accepted principles of oral hygiene and periodontal care
- Appraises patient dental needs, including oral health management and correctional methods
- Records transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided
- Provides oral health education and appropriate tobacco and nutritional counseling for all clinic dental patients
- Ensures dental staff applies proper dental techniques and methods
- Reviews rules and standards, recommends and/or initiates changes in departmental policies and procedures, as appropriate
- Uses all available resources in diagnosis and treatment, such as laboratory and radiological testing, in an appropriate and cost-efficient manner
- Confers with consulting dentists, patients, and patient's families concerning treatment and care of patients in accordance to HIPAA guidelines
- Refers those cases, which require specialist services, but maintains responsibility, assuring that continuity of care is provided
- Participates in the development and implementation of a regularly up-dated performance improvement plan
- Assists in the maintenance of all Dental Department areas in compliance with Dental Department directive and policies as well as Clinic policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control and safety issues
- Complies in full with the Clinic’s Exposure Control Plan
- Travels and attends off site events when necessary to meet operational needs
- Provides supervision to Advanced Education in General Dentistry/General Practice Residents, Doctor of Dental Surgery students, second year Hygiene students as required as well as student dental assistants and volunteers
- As directed by a supervisor, performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduation from an accredited school of dentistry with a Doctor of Dentistry degree
- Licensed to practice dentistry in the State of Texas with at least 3 years of experience.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of preventive and corrective dentistry and oral hygiene; and of clinical dentistry requirements
- Skill in the use of dental instruments and equipment
- Ability to supervise the work of others; to provide patient dental care; to diagnose patient dental care needs; and to prepare and maintain accurate records
- Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques
- Sufficient experience and/or education to carry out the duties of this position
- Must be professionally credentialed
- Able to develop therapeutic relationships with a wide variety of patients from diverse educational, social, and cultural backgrounds
- Can demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
- Can demonstrate effective customer relation skills, working with diverse populations, often in stressful fast paced environments
- Ability to operate computer, copier, document scanners, and fax machines
- Experience with Microsoft Office and practice management system software applications
- Can demonstrate organizational skills, multi-tasking, and effective use of time.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
