What are the responsibilities and job description for the 3rd Grade Elementary Teacher position at San Jose Episcopal Day School?
TEACHING FACULTY
At San Jose Episcopal Day School (SJEDS) everything we do is a loving and joyful expression of our mission: to inspire a passion for learning, a life of integrity, and a heart for Christian service. Our faculty are the heart of our school, beloved by students and parents alike for their warmth, responsiveness, creativity, professionalism, and exceptional commitment to helping every child meet his or her great potential. Lifelong learners themselves, our faculty model the characteristics they seek to cultivate in their students: love, wisdom, open-mindedness, responsibility, service, honesty, respect, patience, faith, and gratitude.
KEY ATTRIBUTES
San Jose Episcopal Day School is seeking an experienced 3rd Grade Teacher who is passionate about teaching and deeply knowledgeable about the academic, social, and emotional development of children in the transitional years of lower school. Our ideal candidate will possess a strong command of best instructional practices for this age group—combining rich content knowledge with a creative, student-centered approach that nurtures both curiosity and confidence.
As a core member of our Lower Division team, the 3rd-grade teacher will design engaging, standards-aligned lessons that support student growth in reading comprehension, written expression, mathematics, and content-area knowledge across social studies and science. An understanding of differentiated instruction, Responsive Classroom practices, and a commitment to whole-child development are essential. We are looking for someone who brings warmth, structure, and joy to the classroom, builds strong relationships with students and families, and views collaboration as a key part of teaching success.
Our faculty members are responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering active, interactive, and purposeful learning experiences that ignite students' imaginations and inspire a love of learning. They approach their work with thoughtfulness and professionalism—but also with a playful, adventurous spirit. Our teachers embrace cross-grade projects, explore new instructional strategies, and view themselves as reflective practitioners, continuously collecting and using formative and summative assessment data to guide instruction and track student progress. With the benefit of small class sizes, our 3rd grade teachers partner closely with families to help each student grow both academically and personally
