The Emergency Preparedness Manager is responsible for creating and overseeing emergency preparedness and response plans for San Luis Valley Health. This role involves assessing risks, coordinating training and drills, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations to protect the organization's assets, personnel, and operations in the event of emergencies.

What You’ll Need :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in emergency preparedness, crisis management, or a related field.
  • Certification in Emergency Management (e.g., Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Associate Emergency Manager (AEM)) preferred.
  • Strong understanding of emergency management principles, risk assessment, and regulatory requirements
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and make quick, effective decisions during emergencies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and emergency management software.

What You’ll Do :

  • Emergency Preparedness Planning :
  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive emergency preparedness plans, including evacuation, communication, and response procedures.

  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and vulnerabilities.
  • Create and update contingency plans for various types of emergencies, including natural disasters, technological incidents, and human-caused events.
  • Security Management :
  • Develop and enforce security policies and procedures to protect the organization's facilities, assets, and personnel.

  • Oversee physical security measures, including access control systems, surveillance systems, and alarm systems.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and recommend improvements.
  • Oversee contract management for third-party security firm to ensure compliance and report follow-up.
  • Training and Drills :
  • Design and deliver training programs for employees on emergency response procedures and safety protocols.

  • Organize and conduct regular drills and exercises to test the effectiveness of emergency plans and procedures.
  • Evaluate drill performance and update plans based on feedback and lessons learned.
  • Compliance and Regulation :
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to emergency preparedness and response.

  • Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and emerging trends in emergency management.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and other external organizations as needed.
  • Crisis Management & Incident Command :
  • Serve as a key member of the crisis management team, providing guidance and support during actual emergencies.

  • Facilitate communication and coordination among various departments and external partners during crises.
  • Oversee the recovery process and evaluate the effectiveness of response efforts.
  • Documentation and Reporting :
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of emergency plans, training records, and incident reports.

  • Prepare regular reports on the status of emergency preparedness initiatives and recommend improvements.
  • Document and review incidents to identify areas for improvement and update plans accordingly.
  • Collaboration and Communication :
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including senior management, facilities, and HR, to ensure alignment of emergency preparedness efforts with organizational goals.

  • Build and maintain relationships with local emergency services, community organizations, and other relevant entities.
  • Communicate emergency preparedness policies and procedures clearly and effectively to all employees.
