Job Summary
The San Mateo County Event Center is a public assembly facility which hosts a wide variety of events and produces the San Mateo County Fair, and operates the Jockey Club, a satellite wagering facility for horseracing as well as a full-service catering and food service operation. SMCEC Tram Drivers safely transport guests throughout the SMCEC property while providing friendly and professional service. Tram Drivers adhere to all safety protocols and are mindful of guests with special needs while providing friendly and processional customer service.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Drive tram safely, according to driving guidelines outlined by SMCEC.
- Prepare tram for daily operations prior to beginning of the shift.
- Assure that all daily maintenance and safety checks are performed and logged, reporting all maintenance requirements to Supervisor, within specified time frame.
- Actively monitor and maintain a safe environment for visitors riding the tram and onboarding/offboarding.
- Maintain, within safety guidelines, Tram arrival and departure schedules.
- Advise visitors, as necessary, of site safety.
- Strictly follow driving guidelines outlines.
- Manage the boarding and offloads of departures and arrivals; assure that trams depart in a timely manner.
- Answer preliminary questions from participants at point of entry.
- Communicate effectively potential issues, concerns, or special cases with participants to appropriate staff or supervisor.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and communicate well to participants and team members. Ability to interact with the public.
- Be focused on safety, with constant awareness of traffic activity at the site at all times.
- Work well in a team-oriented environment.
- Be accustomed to working outdoors as you may be subject to various weather-related environments.
- Must have a valid, state-issued Driver’s License
- Must have clean driving record with less than 3 points on your license.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must demonstrate good driving skills.
- Bi-lingual in Spanish is a plus.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to speak, hear and see. Vision requirements are close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
Salary : $23
