The Database Architect reports to the Manager, IT Innovation & Technology or Director of IT and is responsible for managing Oracle & MS SQLSERVER databases and Middleware platforms for the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (JPB), and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA).
The Database Architect's role is to install, monitor, maintain, and performance tune development, test and production databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This individual is also responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software. This individual also needs to ensure successful migration of databases from on-premises to Cloud platforms.
Essential Functions & Duties
- Responsible for "migration" of Oracle DB to MS Azure as native services (Azure SQL / SQLMI) or IAAS implementations on AVS (Azure VMware Solution) Platform.
- Manages the design and development of databases and related master files. Oversees contributions by Systems, Operations, and Technical Support to develop and improve databases and master files.
- Responsible for "migration" of older SQL databases to latest SQL releases.
- Work closely with Microsoft and Oracle support team and open tickets as required.
- Provides development and operational support for Oracle and MS SQL database systems.
- Provides technical consulting to departments in the implementation of critical business applications.
- Provides technical assistance to selected vendors in the implementation of new integrated applications.
- Help train departmental users in the use of RDMS tools and applications.
- Modify, test, and document forms, reports, and / or interface linkages as required.
- Plans dataflows for new or revised databases, mapping out the 'conceptual design' for planned databases.
- Support Disaster Recovery
- Install and manage middleware platforms
- Assist data team with their extract, transform & load (ETL) needs as necessary
- Provide Audit data as necessary.
- Supervise staff and vendors as necessary
