POSITION SUMMARY
The Full-time, non-exempt Administrative Coordinator is responsible for directly supporting and assisting the County Assessor in exercising a variety of functions and disciplines to ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day operations of the County Assessor’s Office. The Administrative Coordinator performs a multitude of day-to-day functions including customer service (both over the telephone and in-person); provides general office support including typing and data entry, mail and document handling, filing and records management, document preparation and review, the composition of correspondence and receiving payment for reports and other services. The work is both highly sensitive and often confidential in nature.
The position will report directly to the County Assessor and will be classified as a Grade 22. As a full-time position, the Administrative Coordinator is eligible for all County-sponsored insurance and benefit plans as summarized in SMC 2025 Summary of Benefits, subject to applicable waiting periods.
The position will be primarily based out of the County’s Miramonte Building in Telluride, Colorado.
Supervision Received: Receives direct supervision from the County Assessor and the Chief Deputy Assessor.
Supervision Exercised: This position possesses no supervisory responsibilities but requires frequent interaction with the general public.
JOB DESCRIPTION

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Researches, analyzes, and interprets legal descriptions and property ownership to process deed transfers.
- Researches eligibility requirements for senior and veteran exemption applications.
- Prepares documentation for manufactured home ownership changes, relocation, purges, etc.
- Works with confidential information for valuing businesses and personal property.
- Assists in administering business personal property declarations and accounts and in valuing business personal property.
- Attends Division of Property Taxation training to successfully perform required duties.
- Corrects, updates, and maintains accurate property records involving ownership, mailing and situs addresses, sales data, and manufactured homes.
- Prepares correspondence to title companies, attorneys, and the public.
- Educates the public about various assessment functions and explains the application of statutes and guidelines as needed.
- Schedules appointments and completes computer input for appeals.
- Performs clerical duties including answering the telephone, assisting the public with general assessment questions and completing forms, scanning and downloading documents, and general filing.
- Collects fees, issues receipts, records transactions as appropriate, and performs monthly balancing of the cash drawer accurately.
- Reviews and proofreads material and verifies information for accuracy and completeness, makes corrections as necessary.
- May be called upon to assist with special projects.
- Performs duties in accordance with the Colorado Revised Statutes, the Assessor’s Reference Library, County Policies, and Procedures, etc. with a high degree of accuracy.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- Follows oral and written instructions.
- Travels to various locations throughout Colorado for training on occasion; travels throughout San Miguel County for field visits or site inspections as required.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Ability to thoroughly learn and understand the guidelines, policies, procedures, and materials (i.e. Colorado Revised Statutes, County Policies and Procedures, Assessor’s Reference Library, etc.) used in the department within a designated time frame.
- Ability to perform a variety of typing and clerical work with a high degree of accuracy and requiring some exercise of independent judgment.
- Must be able to read, comprehend and apply laws, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures required for this position.
- Possesses a high level of attention to detail.
- Must be a team player and possess the ability to foster and cultivate positive, effective, and trustworthy professional relationships with all County employees, Department Heads, Elected Officials, and the general public, as well as with representatives of other agencies and organizations.
- Possesses strong reasoning and analytical skills; must be able to make rational decisions through sound logical and deductive reasoning processes to make sound judgments, decision making, and problem-solving.
- Must have the ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Possesses strong office technology and computer skills; ability to learn and effectively and accurately use various software programs related to the tasks, duties, and responsibilities required of the position.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Gmail, Google Sheets, and Google Docs.
- Must have proficient knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling in all oral and written communication.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally as well as in a variety of written formats.
- Must be extremely organized and possess the ability to manage multiple tasks and reprioritize workflow and assignments as work situations and needs change.
- Ability to deliver effective results in a fast-paced environment while adhering to scheduled deadlines.
- Must be honest, truthful, positive, and trustworthy and possess a high degree of personal integrity.
- Ability to speak one or more foreign languages, particularly Spanish is preferred but not required.
DESIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in General Business, Finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field is preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience working in a professional office environment or customer service setting is preferred.
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
- Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- As part of your duties as a county employee, you may be called upon to perform duties outside your day-to-day activities in order to support county emergency operations. All county employees are required to complete National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within the first 6 months of employment.
- Must be able to satisfactorily pass a comprehensive, pre-employment criminal background and motor vehicle check.
