Sanctuary for Families is New York’s leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence. Every year, Sanctuary empowers thousands of adults and children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability, transforming lives through a comprehensive range of services. We provide a range of wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Our services are available in 12 locations throughout New York City.


POSITION OVERVIEW

The Program Coordinator for the EMPOWER Center oversees and supports the day to day functioning of the EMPOWER Center. The Program Coordinator will complete client intakes, provide comprehensive case management services for survivors of commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) and sex trafficking, and facilitate trainings. The Program Coordinator will utilize a trauma informed approach to promote clients' right to self- determination and provide services in a manner that emphasizes safety, respect and dignity.


RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Oversee intake process including completing client intakes.
  • Develop strong relationships with referral base and partner agencies through outreach.
  • Train and onboard new MPH, MSW and bachelor candidate interns and assists with training new staff.
  • Act as task supervisor for MSW, MPH and bachelor candidate interns.
  • Oversees the EMPOWER Thriving Program ran by interns to ensure regular scheduling of engaging, educational workshops and building partnerships with workshop facilitators.
  • Co-facilitate client groups as needed.
  • Carry a small caseload of case management clients.
  • Coordinate services with the EMPOWER Center’s obstetrician-gynecologist, peer care navigator, economic empowerment specialist, case manager, primary care physician, therapist, and psychologists.
  • Schedule clients for EMPOWER Center appointments and manage the EMPOWER Center calendar.
  • Assess immediate needs of clients and make appropriate referrals, including for shelter, emergency transfer, and medical treatment.
  • Assist clients in obtaining public benefits for which they are eligible (e.g., Medicaid, food stamps, housing and childcare subsidies).
  • Assist clients with educational advocacy and in navigating school systems.
  • Assist clients in creating stability for themselves and their family through appropriate referrals for counseling, financial counseling, ESOL classes, job readiness programs and higher education.
  • Refer clients to other appropriate legal and social services both within and outside of Sanctuary for Families.
  • Provide substance use recovery support and referrals.
  • Prepare requests for financial assistance grants on behalf of clients.
  • Conduct trainings to raise awareness of commercial sexual exploitation/ sex trafficking.
  • Participate in legislative advocacy efforts and represent Sanctuary for Families on citywide coalitions and committees on issues related to Trafficking/CSE as needed.
  • Maintain accurate case records, document all services provided within Sanctuary’s Service Tracking System and prepare statistics for monthly reports.
  • Perform administrative support.
  • Document work in appropriate data systems and ensures program targets are monitored.
  • Complete reports as required.
  • Perform any other department or agency related duties or special projects as directed.

Requirements

Education/Training/Experience

  •  Master’s Degree (in social work or public health) required; or (10) years equivalent professional experience.
  •  Two (2) years of experience in the social services field, preferably in commercial sexual exploitation/ sex trafficking.
  • Experience with street outreach, intensive case management, knowledge of substance use, foster care, homeless populations, pregnant and parenting populations, low-income populations, people with high medical needs, navigating law enforcement and the criminal justice system, working with individuals involved with gangs and knowledge of the impact of multi-generational poverty.
  • Comfortable working with all ages.
  • Demonstrated experience working holistically in a trauma informed and survivor centered environment.

  •  Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive
  •  Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Work, and Excel
  • Prioritizes survivor voice, experience and expertise
  • Understanding of and ability to work with people of diverse national, ethnic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Familiar with issues of trauma, violence prevention and victimization



Budgeted Salary: $67,584 - $74,655 per year; based on experience pursuant to wage scale in accordance with collective bargaining agreement


Work position is Full-time; Salaried/ Exempt.


Work schedule is currently hybrid; must be able to meet job location schedule obligations.
