Sanctuary Medicinals in Littleton, MA is seeking a Lab Manager to join our team!
General Management
- Own full oversight of the lab and all processes under direction from Lab Director/VP
- Manage all lab personnel including extraction techs, processing techs, and packaging techs
- Interview and hire staff as needed
- Schedule staff and delegate tasks; confirm and fix hours in homebase, oversee and manage lab personnel, and conducts reviews as well as disciplinary action if needed
- Respond to the team's questions, concerns and suggestions; take immediate action as necessary to resolve conflicts.
- Effectively communicate to both technical and non-technical personnel including wholesale and marketing on status, capabilities, feasibility, and timelines as related to lab products and processes
- Provide leadership for employees by coaching, training, and development to ensure that safety and company policies are adhered to consistently and effectively
- Maintain transparent inter-department communication regarding end of day accomplishments, unplanned events, next-day’s scheduled activities, workarounds and similar operational items.
- Collaborates with Operations leadership, Production leadership, and the Laboratory Director/VP to meet production goals and laboratory improvements.
- Plan, organize, direct, and manage extractions and processing/packaging to achieve the company’s objectives efficiently, compliantly, and safely including all aspects of extraction, refinement, formulation and packaging of materials into final formulated products
Planning
- Coordinate interdepartmental material transfers including trim/ sugar leaf and buds from trim/harvest, distillate and liquid shatter to kitchen and final products to L2 and P&L; Manage material requirements to increase inventory turns and reduce levels on hand.
- Maintain accountability and inventory of all raw materials, finished products, and by-products of the extraction process, either directly or through delegation, including compliance with state regulations using Biotrack and Metric, transfers and conversions, as well as tracking of all products on auxiliary spreadsheets as needed.
- Meet production goals through time management and planning
- Consistently look for areas of improvement in production processes
- Provide recommendations on specific product formulations to meet the needs of patients and strategic approaches set forth by the executive team.
- Works in conjunction with the production manager to ensure that products are produced in accordance with demand.
- Execute cleaning and maintenance schedule for the lab space and equipment as required by procedures and manufacturer specs, ensuring no disruption to production.
Compliance
- Oversee sampling of all lab products and transferring to testing labs. Analyze and oversee entry of Test Results, taking corrective action if required; Work with local state-approved laboratories to provide samples for regular testing of extracted and formulated products and ensure all results are documented in compliance with state regulations.
Ordering
- Coordinate with Production Manager to manage vendor relationships for extraction and processing equipment to ensure equipment quality is optimal.
- Contribute to the selection of new extraction equipment purchases.
- Maintain stock of terpenes for required products
- Order Transdermal Gel base, MCT Oil, Essential Oils, Menthol, and other ingredients for in-lab products
- Put in purchase order requests with accounting as well as communicate with vendors regarding payment
Processing
- Allocate products for packaging or for use in secondary and tertiary products
- Oversee accurate and consistent formulation numbers for all infused products
- Oversee proper dosing of products such as TD Gel, infused flower and Tincture, Rocks and Sauce, terpene infused distillate for vape carts
Maintenance
- Troubleshoot and order replacement parts for maintenance of equipment including Vapejet, Capsule filler, Spinning Band, MVP solvent pump, Rotovaps, Chillers
- Establish and maintain equipment files to include any qualification/commissioning documents, repair or modification history, preventive maintenance, and calibration records.
- Oversees the cleaning and maintenance and documentation of equipment pre- and post-use.
- Write, maintain and revise written SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).
R&D/Product Development
- Work with Lab Director/VP to conduct new product R&D and existing process improvements
- Bring suggestions for new products or processes to the greater team
