Sand County Environmental, Inc. (SCE) is a small, environmental consulting firm seeking a motivated, dynamic person for a full-time environmental technician/scientist position. SCE provides a full range of environmental consulting services with unique expertise in phytotechnologies, agricultural chemicals, stormwater management, and landfill data evaluation. We are an environmental consulting firm consisting of soil scientists, hydrologists, geologists, and engineers. SCE performs work nationwide, with current projects extending from California to Indiana.

Our primary offices are in Rosholt and Rhinelander, Wisconsin, with temporary offices set up at project locations.

Position Description

This full-time, limited-term employment, entry-level position will support senior staff with field work, data collection, and compiling analytical information to complete environmental investigation and remediation projects. This position has the potential to transition to a full-time position. The position will transition to increased responsibilities and decision-making as skill sets develop.  This position will be in SCE’s Rhinelander office starting in April/May and continuing until September/October.  Duties may include the following:

·        Assist with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, stormwater inspections, and environmental investigations.

·        Plan field deployments.

·        Conduct soil and groundwater sampling at landfills and agricultural sites.

·        Phytotechnology system installation and maintenance, including irrigation systems.

·        Oversee contractors during remedial soil excavations, monitoring well installation, etc.

·        Physical labor, including building, mowing, fencing, etc.

·        Compile field data into tables and reports.

This position requires some travel. Most jobs are located in-state and allow you to return home each night, though an occasional night away from home is needed.

Minimum Requirements

The ideal candidates will meet the following requirements:

·        Must be at least 18 years old.

·        A high school diploma is required, and secondary education is a plus.

·        Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

·        Basic skills with hand and power tools, small engines, etc.

·        Comfort in the outdoors and ability to perform year-round fieldwork.

·        Technical writing and communication skills.

·        Detail-oriented, flexible, self-motivated, and able to work with limited supervision.

·        Honest, hard-working, and ready to learn.

If employee transitions to a full-time position, the following will apply:

·        Able to pass pre-employment drug screening. Random drug testing is a requirement.

·        Willingness to work away from home for a maximum of 2 weeks at a time, up to 3 times per year.

Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications give precedence to the applicant:

·        Experience working in the same industry or a related field, such as agriculture, waste management, or construction.

·        Familiarity with GPS and GIS technologies is a plus.

·        Experience with engineering software applications (AutoCAD, ESRI, HydroCAD, etc.) is a plus.

·        40-Hour OSHA HAZWOPER training certificate (must complete this training within the first month of employment [paid training]).

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation will be based on experience. The hourly pay for entry-level positions will range from $16.00 to $18.50.

Please note that the LTE position is not eligible for benefits. However, if the employee transitions into a full-time salaried position, the benefits will include
