Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Line-X Prep Technician to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the proper surface preparation for the application of Line-X spray-on coatings, typically used for truck bed liners, industrial, and commercial applications. This position involves preparing surfaces to ensure the coating adheres effectively, while maintaining a high standard of safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surface Preparation:
- Clean and degrease surfaces to remove dirt, grease, oil, rust, and other contaminants using specialized cleaners and solvents.
- Sandblast or scuff surfaces (metal, plastic, or composite materials) to create the optimal surface texture for coating adhesion.
- Utilize abrasive materials (such as sandpaper or blast media) to ensure proper texture and roughness for optimal bonding.
- Surface Inspection:
- Inspect surfaces for damage, rust, or imperfections that may affect the final result.
- Report any issues with the surface to the supervisor for additional repairs or adjustments.
- Masking and Tape Application:
- Mask off and protect surrounding areas (such as trim, hardware, and other components) that are not to be coated, using painter’s tape, plastic sheeting, or tarps.
- Final Cleaning:
- Perform a final wipe-down of surfaces with solvent or alcohol to ensure there are no remaining contaminants (dust, oil, or grease) before coating application.
- Safety and Cleanliness:
- Adhere to all safety guidelines for handling chemicals, abrasives, and equipment.
- Maintain a clean work area to minimize contamination risks and ensure a safe working environment.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with Line-X applicators to ensure smooth transitions between preparation and the application stages.
- Collaborate with supervisors and other technicians to meet production deadlines and quality standards.
- Documentation:
- Record surface preparation processes and materials used, ensuring all steps are properly documented for quality control.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Previous experience in surface preparation, automotive, or industrial coatings preferred, but not required.
- Experience with sandblasting, painting, or coatings preparation is a plus.
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Knowledge of surface preparation techniques, including sanding, sanding, and blasting.
- Familiarity with cleaning agents, degreasers, and solvents used for industrial surface prep.
- Ability to follow safety protocols when working with chemicals and heavy machinery.
- Attention to detail with a focus on quality control to ensure proper surface preparation.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
- Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs as required for handling materials, equipment, and protective coverings.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions if working outdoors or in unconditioned spaces.
