What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Project Manager position at Sandhill Environmental Services?
SUMMARY: Our mission at Sandhill is to provide superior quality native plants and services to help steward Florida’s native and created habitats. The Project Manager position requires a hard-working individual that is experienced, reliable, and self-motivated. The primary role of Project Manager will be to assist in Sandhill's mission by overseeing various ecological restoration and vegetation maintenance projects and to ensure projects are completed safely, correctly, and efficiently.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure efficient and effective daily field operations
- Assist in prioritizing/scheduling field operations
- Supervision of field operations
- Leadership of crew leaders and crews
- Daily communication with mostly Spanish-speaking employees
- Detailed communication and coordination with crew leaders and sub-contractors
- Implement and enforce policies and procedures of company safety program
- Daily communication with direct supervisor and clients/agency personnel
- Report equipment breakdowns or necessary maintenance needs to direct supervisor
- Inspection of site conditions and field operations during all phases of projects
- Monitor project progress with regards to budget and timelines
- Uphold company expectations of excellence and superior customer service
- Clean and care for company-owned vehicles and equipment
- Maintain professional appearance and manner
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in ecological restoration/vegetation management; compensation commensurate with experience.
- Must possess strong knowledge of industry practices, and methods of ecological restoration and vegetation management (e.g., mechanical removal, herbicide application, planting installation, etc.)
- Must possess knowledge of Florida’s natural habitats and be able to identify native, exotic and nuisance plant species
- Must possess wisdom and ability to SAFELY operate equipment, tools, and vehicles
- Must take reasonable responsibility of project operations and safety
- Must take initiative and be flexible with assignments
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
- Must be a team player and be able to work solo when required
- Must possess problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Must possess strong communication skills and exercise good judgement
- Mechanical and machinery skills preferred, but not required
- Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid Driver’s License
- FDACS Commercial Applicator Restricted Use Pesticide License upon/within 90 days of hire
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Monday through Friday, 10-hour day shift, occasional overtime/overnight/weekend work required.
- Frequent lifting and carrying heavy objects, such as 50-to-100-pound containers and heavy tools/equipment.
- Physical requirements include but are not limited to bending, crouching, pulling, pushing, and balancing. Walking/hiking through thick vegetation, steep and uneven terrain/canal banks with equipment is often necessary.
- Fieldwork requires employees to safely function outdoors among wildlife and within various and sometimes averse physical and climactic conditions.
- Must be able to work outdoors in cold and hot/humid conditions and within an office setting.
- Must be able to work safely with hazardous materials and equipment that require the appropriate use of personal protective equipment and disposal procedures.
