What are the responsibilities and job description for the College & Career Readiness Instructor position at Sandhills Community College?
This position is responsible for providing instruction in 1.) the Adult Basic Education (ABE) program, 2.) the Adult Secondary Education (ASE) program which includes Adult High School (AHS) and High School Equivalency (HSE) classes, and/or the English Language Acquisition (ELA) program or any other College and Career Readiness class for the purpose of progressing students to a higher level of education.

- Be present in classroom and ready to begin at the class start time. Provide advance notice of absence to coordinator and ensure adequate coverage of class.(see CCR Instructor Manual)
- Completes registration paperwork, completes appropriate LEIS forms and submits to coordinator within two (2) business days. (see CCR Instructor Manual)
- Updates returning student’s academic assessment for placement using CASAS
- and submits corresponding paperwork to coordinator within 2 business days. Ensures students are consistently placed based on assessment scores.
- Administers standardized post tests according to current SCC CCR guidelines and submits to coordinator within 2 business days.
- Prepares CASAS Student Performance by Competency form or prescriptive
- pre-assessment by subject matter upon entry. Uses form to individualize instruction to meet students’ needs.
- Prepares daily lesson plans in advance based on NC Adult Basic Education Content Standards and CASAS Student Performance by Competency forms for individual and group instruction. Use a variety of teaching techniques and mediums, utilizing contextualized instruction, and other methods presented at NC Community Colleges System (NCCCS) office Core Credential or Specialty trainings.
- Ensures class time is used as instructional time, engaging all students respectively.
- Manages classroom in accordance to CCR Classroom Agreement and Student Incident Report Procedures, enforcing consistently with all students and personal attendants if applicable.
- Prepares and maintains student’s permanent folder to include LEIS form-1, signed Classroom Agreement, Student Incident Report Procedures, competency forms, contact log, work sample, and any additional paperwork specific to the individual.
- Prepares and maintains student’s working folder to include current classroom
- work assignments.
- Maintains confidentiality of student records utilizing lockable storage units. Ensures confidentiality and compliance with FERPA by adhering to Release of Information signed by student on back-side of LEIS form-1.
- Maintains attendance roster using web attendance on a daily basis; grades and submits roster electronically at the end of the contract period. Ensures the accuracy and integrity of student hours reported in accordance with auditing requirements.
- Makes immediate contact with students when absences occur, and documents results of contacts in permanent folder. Reports excessive, ongoing absences to coordinator.
- Works with coordinator and recruiters to ensure that class enrollment is sufficient
- to justify offering the class. Should enrollment/attendance drop below an acceptable level (as deemed by Director), class hours will be altered or the class may be cancelled. Instructor contract will be altered or canceled accordingly.
- Maintains a knowledge of CCR Instructor Manual, follows procedures found within, and has available for review by SCC staff, state auditors and substitutes as needed.
- Maintains classroom and supplies and submits supply requests to coordinator as
- needed.
- Attends a minimum of 12 hours of staff development related to position per year and reports each activity to coordinator as completed. Attends required trainings. Attends NCCCS Core Credential and/or Specialty trainings. Completes Core Credential within two years of hired.
- Provides guidance and assistance to other part-time instructors and instructional assistants as directed by coordinator.
- Daily and accurately completes Instructor Time Reports, records daily, scans weekly, signs and dates at the last class day of every month.
- Promptly signs Instructional Contracts and submits to coordinator and/or Program Associate as requested.
- Maintains appropriate communication with staff – coordinator, LEIS coordinator, Director, etc. as needed, copying coordinator on all work-related emails. Reviews and responds to email and other communications from coordinator and other SCC staff within 24 hours of receipt.
- Completes additional duties as assigned by coordinator and/or Director.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Proficiency in computer applications to include spreadsheets, word processing, email programs and others as designated by supervisor.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and organizational skills.
Teaching in adult education environment and experience with online learning preferred.
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Salary : $22
