What are the responsibilities and job description for the FINANCIAL SERVICES AND SCC FOUNDATION ACCOUNTANT position at Sandhills Community College?
The Financial Services and SCC Foundation Accountant will have supervisory responsibility for the
Foundation’s accounting as well as assist with the College’s accounting system and fiscal practices;
focusing on maintaining and directing activities related to financial reporting, general ledger systems,
internal control and auditing procedures in accordance with general accepted accounting principles and
in compliance with applicable state and federal rules and regulations.Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Foundation Accounting Functions –
o Address general Foundation accounting needs (GL account creation, fund transfer requests, journal entries, troubleshoot account issues, manage ACH
payments, online gift fund reconciliation, etc.)
o Vanguard investment management and Vanguard bank reconciliation including Foundation cash management between accounts
o Fund Authority (governing gift documents) management
o Improve documentation, accounting practices and workflow efficiencies
o Prepare and work with college CPAs on audited financial statements and relevant IRS tax filings (charitable gift annuity 1099-Rs, trust 990-pfs,
foundation 990, submitting EFTPS payments)
o Prepare Annual Foundation reports for the college’s Board of Trustees
o Work with Director of Foundation Operations on confirming employee giving through payroll deduction
o Work with Senior Director of Development, VP of Engagement, Chief Financial Officer, and Budget Analyst as needed to set annual Foundation
budgets in Clarity (unrestricted, restricted, scholarships, awards)
o Assist with facilitation of Staff Foundation Finance Committee Meetings Work with Director of Foundation Operations on maintaining pledge
schedules and Foundation receivables
o Assist with invoicing for business/corporate partners for philanthropic support and pledges
o Manage overall grant accounting structure
• Financial Services Accounting Functions –
o Assists with maintaining the general accounting system for the College in accordance with NC Community College System accounting procedures and
ensures changes are compatible with the state accounting system
o Assists with monitoring or reviewing accounting transactions using a wide range of accounting knowledge to assure compliance with applicable state and
federal laws as well as with the State Board of Community College Code, the North Carolina Community College System Accounting Procedures Manual,
the College's Accounting Procedures, and Sandhills Community College’s Policies and Procedures Manual
o Assists with month-end and year-end closing processes necessary to timely and accurately prepare external reports
o Assists with the setting up of new general ledger accounts
o Assists with ensuring accounts are balanced, bank deposits are verified and correctly deposited, and all financial payments and receipts are accurately
documented in the appropriate ledgers and journals
o Assists in the preparation, control and maintenance of budgets, including budget transfers
o Assists with capital improvement projects to include tracking in Interscope for State Construction, Grants awarded such as SCIF and Tobacco Trust, local
funds awarded for projects, and county budgeted dollars. Prepare reimbursement requests as needed
o Assists with reconciliation of bank statements, prepares requests for funds from state and federal sources, makes necessary accounting journal entriesBachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent
• Minimum five years experience in community college accounting office preferred
• Experience preparing financial statements
• Robust knowledge of investment/endowment management preferred
• Strong knowledge of Colleague preferred
• Understanding non-profits, and ability to work well in an ever-changing environment

Salary : $64,000 - $74,000
