Lab Technician I
The Lab Technician works as part of the medical office team. The Lab Technician works to provide timely and accurate on-site laboratory services. The Phlebotomist is responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, supplies, records, and procedures in accordance with OSHA, CUA, COI and other applicable standards. The Lab Technician performs clinical and clerical duties in a clinical setting within the scope of their training. The Lab Technician is expected to be a part of a patient-centered care team approach, assure quality, cost-effective care for the identified patient population, and ensure adherence to SMF policies and procedures.
Patient Centered Responsibilities :
- Collect viable specimens from the clinic's patients, performs in-house testing, prepares specimens / records for outside lab procedures, and records lab results.
- Perform proficiency testing on laboratory equipment as required by Medical and Lab Directors.
- Work with patients and clinical healthcare team regarding test availability, collection of specimens, cost effectiveness of tests, etc.
- Perform and maintain proper documentation of quality control procedures on all laboratory equipment in accordance with OSHA, CLIA, CQI, and other applicable standards.
- Participate in team huddles to promote clear communication among care team and treating providers.
