What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic graduate students in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance who are eager to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world environment. As a graduate intern, you will work alongside experienced professionals, contribute to impactful projects, and gain valuable hands-on experience in areas such as system development, network management, continuous monitoring, and information assurance.
Selected candidates will be interviewed by a subcommittee of managers from across the division. Successful applicants will join the internship program and will be matched with organizational managers based on their interests and departmental needs. Interns are expected to commit 10 to 14 weeks of full-time employment over the summer. The program also includes onboarding meetings, tours of the laboratories, group projects, networking events, and a final project presentation to division leadership and management.
On any given day, you may be called on to :
- Assist in planning and executing processes and projects supporting High Security Operations.
- Develop and deliver status reports, service metrics, decision documents, and presentations.
- Identify efficiencies and conduct lessons learned for process improvements.
- Record and implement ideas and activities for process improvements.
- Perform threat assessments and due diligence evaluations of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) software.
- Conduct technical evaluations of COTS software and provide recommendations.
- Work with subject matter experts to implement and document security controls and mitigations.
- Utilize continuous monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk) to analyze and report on cybersecurity metrics.
- Develop dashboards and scripts to enhance data visualization and process automation.

Salary Range
At Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment / education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
