NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs :

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range : 157,100 - $267,000

  • Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like :

We are seeking an R&D Manager to lead our highly dedicated and mission focused Statistics and Data Analytics department (5574) in the Human-Driven Data Science Group. Areas of emphasis include : design of experiments, statistical quality control, probabilistic modeling and computer simulation, statistical model calibration, analytics, statistical learning, inverse modeling and prediction, reliability and maintainability analysis, margin and uncertainty analysis, and metrology.

On any given day, you may be called on to :

Partner with the management team and the data / information sciences community to develop and implement the vision and strategies for the future and to jointly manage the laboratories' statistics capability

Craft and execute workforce development plans including recruiting, hiring, retention, career development and performance assessment for staff in the department, and facilitate the transfer of knowledge and skills from experienced to developing statisticians

Build and cultivate relationships with organizations across the laboratories, internal / external customers and federal agencies by providing statistical science knowledge, skills and insights and connections to resources.

Partner with mission and capability managers to understand the statistics and data analytics needs and challenges of these programs and prioritize agreements to support the greatest needs and areas of highest impact.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite

Qualifications We Require :

Master's degree in mathematics, statistics, data science, computer science, engineering, or relevant field plus four (4) years' relevant experience or; PhD in the above fields.

Two years' leadership or management experience

Active DOE Q (or equivalent) security clearance and ability to acquire and maintain SCI access, which may require a polygraph

Qualifications We Desire :

Strong knowledge of the Nuclear Deterrence mission & weapons lifecycle process

Familiarity in statistics and the engineering application of statistics and relationships with technical community

Ability to lead cross-organizational teams and work in a highly matrixed environment, including the proven ability to build, lead and represent the capabilities of diverse, successful teams

Proven interpersonal skills in developing trust-based relationships among peers, staff, management, and sponsors

Proficiency with varied communication methods, including oral presentation, preparation of high-impact visual presentations, written reports, proposals, documentation and the ability to clearly and concisely communicate scientific and technical information at a level tailored the audience

Department 5574 primarily focuses on Sandia's nuclear deterrence and global security mission areas. We provide end-to-end support with statistics capabilities for the concept / feasibility, development, production and surveillance activities in the ND weapons process. Statisticians partner closely on mission teams to inform the collection, analysis, and interpretation of engineering data to make informed national security decisions. The department is actively engaged in several lab level initiatives such as the nuclear deterrence digital transformation and new approaches for reliability of nuclear weapon components and systems. Our department also act as trusted advisors on statistical methods for reliability, quality, uncertainty quantification, and metrology, and steward several statistics classes for the laboratories. We have a highly collaborative management team who work together to address program, line, and capability requirements, with highly matrixed staff.

  • Security Clearance :

    Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment / education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
