NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs. If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date. Salary Range $88,600 - $172,300 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential. What Your Job Will Be Like We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design radio frequency (RF) components. Join our dynamic team to develop creative solutions to unique national security challenges! Our Mechanical Engineers work closely with RF, electrical, and systems engineers to develop sophisticated RF systems and antenna designs and concepts in support of a broad range of defense, interagency, special communications, and other programs for research and development initiatives. On any given day, the successful candidate may be called upon to: * Initiate, design, develop, complete, and evaluate new processes, products, or systems for implementing and integrating engineering solutions * Produce designs, models, and product definitions of complex objects * Determine product requirements based on user needs * Use CAD application software to develop mechanical design concepts integral to electronics and parent systems * Evaluate design options using analysis and optimization techniques * Specify materials, equipment, and suppliers required to complete product development * Evaluate vendor capabilities to provide required products or services * Prepare design specifications, analyses, and recommendations for presentation and approval * Develop and provide the necessary design documentation to enable industry and government production partners to produce the components
This position requires on-site work in a collaborative electronics laboratory environment using iterative/agile methods to develop capabilities and requires occasional travel of approximately 4 trips per year. Qualifications We Require * Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant STEM field, Or equivalent experience in lieu of degrees must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development. * Ability to obtain and maintain a Q-level clearance Qualifications We Desire * Experience with design, fabrication, and testing of one or more of the following: printed antennas, conformal antennas, RF communication architectures, RF front ends, and other RF components * Ability to effectively prioritize and make decisions * Lead individuals and teams in the process of technology development and innovation * Experience conducting structural and thermal finite element analysis (FEA) of electronic systems and components * Previous working relationships with the US Department of Defense or other government agencies * Experience with RF and packaging electronics and systems into mechanical assemblies * Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills * CREO and/or SolidWorks proficiency * Solid modeling and structural mechanics exposure * Ability to work optimally with management and to communicate effectively (written and verbal) About Our Team The Radar & Signal Analysis department provides system analysis and design for a wide variety of radio-frequency (RF) and microwave communications, geolocation, and radar missions with an emphasis on electromagnetic protection. The department missions include terrestrial, airborne, and space systems for nuclear deterrence (ND), strategic intelligence partnership programs (SIPP), and strategic partnership programs (SPP). Expertise within the department includes radar (fuzing, moving target interdiction, and synthetic aperture radar), digital communications, waveform development, waveform detection, signal processing, and transceiver development. We actively work with our sponsors to understand their complete mission space, including development of new assets or exploitation of existing assets for novel capability or enhanced performance. We intimately partner with other departments within the Advanced RF business area and throughout Sandia to provide complete solutions to our sponsors.
