What Your Job Will Be Like :

We are seeking a R&D Laboratory Support Technologist.

On any given day, you may be called on to :

Support the daily operations of the AC Lab within the Primary Standards Lab by :

Conducting complex measurements and calibrations.

Developing effective calibration processes and procedures.

Developing and deploying major measurement systems.

Analyzing and reducing measurement data.

Assuring a high-quality and efficient calibration of customer assets.

Assisting in troubleshooting of measurement system issues.

Responding to customer inquiries and consulting with customers on their measurement needs.

Keeping lab documentation current.

Improve performance and quality for measurement systems' capabilities in the lab.

Apply knowledge, experience and technical capability in measurement and calibration science.

Conduct / support research and development of new measurement technologies and techniques related to the lab's capabilities in accordance with strategy set by the PSL and the project lead.

Team with PSL engineers and other technologists to develop and execute plans and solve measurement and quality issues.

Develop / maintain equipment and facilities for daily use and future improvements.

Travel on a limited basis to support NNSA technical surveillances, attend training courses, and related activities.

Salary Range : 72,800 - $140,600

Qualifications We Require :

An associate degree in Engineering, Physics, or the Physical Sciences or equivalent training and experience in the military or in industry.

Strong interest in metrology and experience making complex, precise measurements.

Experience developing or troubleshooting equipment at the component or system level.

A working knowledge and experience of multiple disciplines to include some combination of the following : electronics; electricity; physics; statistics; complex circuit schematics; measurement techniques and computerized systems.

Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q security clearance of a DOD equivalent.

Qualifications We Desire :

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with evidence of strong academic performance.

Background and experience performing sophisticated Alternating Current tests, measurements, calibrations, and certifications.

Experience in developing methods, processes, technical work documents and procedures.

Experience programming computer-controlled equipment using Python, LabView, or MetCal.

Experience with a broad application of instruments, assemblies, standards, and systems.

Experience with AC intrinsic standard systems or practices such as the Josephson Arbitrary Waveform Synthesizer (JAWS)

Experience working within a rigorous quality system in an accredited standards lab environment.

Desire to learn new skills as required and develop expertise in areas that may be unfamiliar.

Experience with ISO 17025, Z540, NAP 401.1 or other quality assurance programs.

Experience with measurement uncertainty, propagation of error, and error budgets.

Familiarity with system level operation of multifunction calibrators, and other electrical measurement equipment.

Familiarity with statistical analysis techniques using Microsoft Excel

Excellent teaming, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Self-motivated and willing to work on a diverse range of projects in a fast-paced environment.

About Our Team :

Department 2943, Primary Electrical Standards, provides calibration support to the Nuclear Security Enterprise, including support for SNL research and production organizations. Department 2943 consists of three project groups : DC Electrical, AC Electrical, and Microwave. Each project develops and maintains primary standards, consults on measurement problems, calibrates reference standards, and assists in technical oversight of the DOE / NNSA Nuclear Weapons Complex contractor standards laboratories. The overall calibration program is accredited by the NIST National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program.
