What are the responsibilities and job description for the Court Security Officer position at Sandoval County?
Under general supervision, the Court Security Officer maintains order in assigned areas as directed by the courts, takes persons into custody and provides assistance to the public, court, and other County employees as needed to ensure a safe and orderly environment for the District Court, Administration Building, Grand Jury sessions, Probate Court proceedings, and County Commission meetings.
Education and Experience:
Required Licenses or Certifications:
This position is subject to random alcohol and drug testing in accordance with Sandoval County Personnel Rules and Regulations Article XIII Drug and Alcohol Policy and Testing- Drug Free Workplace.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent from an accredited institution and two (2) years of security guard, court security, or loss prevention experience or work as a law enforcement, detention officer, or correctional officer with a state, local, or Federal entity; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- New Mexico driver’s license may be required.
- Must meet New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy or equivalent correctional/security/armed forces firearms training standards within 30 days of employment.
- Must pass a background check applicable to position
- Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Must pass a pre-employment psychological evaluation

- Patrols the Sandoval County Judicial Complex, Sandoval County Administrative building, and other areas of the main campus on foot to provide a visual deterrent against disorder and provider sense of security to employees and patrons of County facilities.
- Provides assistance at the lobby information station.
- Attends District Court proceedings and Domestic Relations hearings to provide courtroom security to the judges, staff, and visitors.
- Screens visitors visually and with the use of a hand wand magnetometer and walk-through magnetometer to ensure compliance with court ordered restrictions of items such as weapons, electronic devices, and food or beverages from entering the facility; operates the X-ray machine to scan packages for restricted items; monitors the facility’s security video system.
- Takes person(s) into court ordered custody; monitors prisoners in holding cells; physically removes disorderly patrons from court proceedings; detains persons for Deputies, as needed.
- Completes incident reports and associated documents as required with the use of department computers, equipment, and various software programs.
- Attends Grand Jury sessions, Probate Court, and County Commissions meetings to provide security to court staff and County Commissioners and visitors to ensure an orderly and safe environment.
- Operates County owned passenger vehicles as directed.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
