Sandwich Public Schools has an anticipated position for a dedicated, compassionate, and skilled School Nurse to join our team at Sandwich Middle High School in East Sandwich, Massachusetts. This full-time position supports the health and well-being of students and others present in the school building. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently, possess strong assessment skills for both injury and illness, provide high-quality care, promote a safe and healthy school environment, and work collaboratively with students, parents, staff, student support team, and healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to students, including first aid, medication administration, social-emotional support, and management of chronic health conditions.
- Assess and triage students for illness or injury, determining the need for further medical attention.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with school policies, and legal requirements.
- Maintain accurate health records, including medication logs, treatment documentation, and immunization records.
- Provide emergency care in cases of accidents or medical crises.
- Collaborate with school staff and parents to manage student health plans, including Individualized Health Care Plans (IHCPs) for students with chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and allergies.
- Educate students and staff about health issues, wellness practices, and disease prevention.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal health regulations and guidelines.
- Participate in school health-related committees and promote a positive school climate.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold FERPA regulations related to student health information.
Qualifications:
- Massachusetts Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Certification in CPR
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (Masters Degree/NCSN preferred, either will be required within 5 years)
- DESE Certification
- Recent experience in school nursing or pediatric / emergency / ICU
- Knowledge of state health regulations and laws related to school health programs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Knowledge of and experience with PowerSchool and SNAP preferred
- Knowledge of and experience with Google platforms preferred
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Organizational skills to manage health records, office inventory, and documentation efficiently.
