The Sandwich Public Schools is looking for a School Security Personnel to work the day shift.
JOB GOALS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work cooperatively with the School Resource Officer (SRO).
- Collaboratively establish with the building custodial staff, a schedule for periodic building checks.
- Have a thorough knowledge of building communication and alarm systems, as well as emergency shut-offs for building utilities.
- Have a working knowledge of the security camera and monitor system.
- Know authorized personnel associated with school operations.
- Maintain radio communication with the police and emergency services using radio, as provided.
- Conduct building sweep prior to opening, monitor opening ensure all doors are secure at start of the school day.
- Provide periodic checks of all doors throughout the school day.
- Communicate and coordinate with the school administration about any and all scheduled events.
- Make daily random checks of school parking lots and report any suspicious or unauthorized vehicles, keep fire lanes clear, and assist in parking lot monitoring before and after school as directed by the administration and/or SRO.
- Review daily logs maintained in the school offices that details the visitors of the day.
- Patrol building throughout the day and make random checks of school lavatories (as appropriate) and hallways.
- Make sure that all staff are wearing their identification badges and that any visitors are wearing visitor badges.
- Assist in the distribution and verification of replacement ID.
- Check parking lots for any issues throughout the school day.
- Notify the administration about any observed breaches in security.
- Notify the Director of Facilities of any observed lock malfunctions.
- Report immediately any observed or reported concerns or security breaches regarding students or staff to the school administration.
- Maintain security log of areas checked, times checked, and any related issues.
- Serve as a member of the District Response team, and know the emergency procedures approved by the district.
- Wear a school security uniform as designated.
- Participate in required training sessions with emergency service trainers. Serve on the Safety Group
- Intervenes appropriately as trained to mitigate situations involving student safety, immediately notify the SRO by radio, inform the teacher on duty, and report the incident to the administration.
- Conduct himself/herself in a courteous, professional manner with parents, staff and visitors.
- Maintain a positive, professional relationship with students to develop an atmosphere of trust and cooperation.
- May assist in other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- High School Diploma
- Ability to work outdoors or indoors at periods of time throughout the workday and work year.
- Demonstrate aptitude and competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Able to lift 50 lbs.
- Current MA driver’s license.
- Upon hiring, employees will be required to complete training provided through the Sandwich Safety Committee, including (but not limited to) First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) including use of the district’s defibrillators, ALICE training or comparable . Must be available to work some evenings and weekends.
