What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Preschool Teacher and Assistant Teacher position at Sandy Hill Nursery School, Inc.?
At Sandy Hill, we are dedicated to a play-based, child-centered, holistic approach to early education. We endeavor to provide all of our students with a responsive, nurturing environment in which to grow and thrive. Sandy Hill is a family participation, nonprofit preschool and parents/guardians are involved in every aspect of our program. Our core values are kindness, collaboration, growth and authenticity.
Our school is located on a beautiful, ocean-view hillside in Solana Beach and shares its campus with the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of San Dieguito. We are an outdoor-focused program and each classroom has its own dedicated yard space in addition to our large main playground. Most of our teachers have been with our school for many years and we have very low staff turnover. Our teachers are appreciated and supported by our admin team, school families and parent board members.
We are looking for a fully qualified Part-Time Preschool Teacher to join our team and/or an Assistant Teacher who plans to continue on their path of professional growth. All Sandy Hill teachers must be familiar with our program goals and philosophy with an understanding that will translate into developmentally appropriate curriculum planning/implementation and will inform interpersonal interactions.
The Part-Time Preschool Teacher will work with a co-teacher in one of our three mixed-age classes. While this is currently a part-time position, there is the possibility of moving to full-time. Days/hours will be discussed during the interview process and the schedule is somewhat flexible.
The Part-Time Assistant Teacher will work with the Preschool Jr. Teacher in our 2.5-3.5 year-old class, assisting with care and supervision of the students as well as planning and implementation of the play-based, emergent curriculum plan. Teacher ratio in this class is 1:5 and children must be potty trained to attend. The school day goes from 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM. Because we offer early drop-off and late pick-up options, the Assistant Teacher’s hours would be MWF from 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM. There may be additional opportunities for substitute teaching, etc.
Our school year runs from September-June and the ideal candidate for either of these positions will also be able/willing to teach during our summer day camp (including this summer) which runs from late June to early August. Work hours during summer would be 8:30 AM - 1:15 PM Monday, Wednesday and Friday with the possibility of Tuesday/Thursday as well during busier weeks.
