Founded in 1961, Sandy Spring Friends School is a progressive, coed, academically-rigorous day and boarding school serving approximately 620 students from age three through 12th grade. Summary: As a part of the Campus Health Care Team, the Health Center Nurse (LPN) assists in the daily operations of the School’s Health Center, providing healthcare services to students during the school year as well as campers during the summer months. This is a 12-month position. Working under the supervision of the RN Director of Health, the Health Center Nurse delivers nursing care, including basic first aid, emergency management, health promotion and education. This position ensures both the physical and emotional well-being of our student population, delivering the highest standard of care to our students. On-call duties are required during the school year, shared among the members of the Health Care Team.
Responsibilities:
Under the guidance of the supervising RN:
Follow standards for school health and camp nurses set forth by Sandy Spring Friends School, Montgomery County, Maryland State, and the American Camp Association
Organize, maintain, and utilize Health Center resources appropriately
Ensure student/camper health documentation is current and on file
Manage the intake, storage, and inventory of medications
Provide nursing care in accordance with established protocols
Conduct annual hearing and vision screening in compliance with Maryland State regulations
Utilize the electronic health record (EHR) to document each encounter
Respond to, manage, and record emergency incidents on campus
Manage notification of parents and relevant staff; follow-up as appropriate
Facilitate collaboration among members of the student support team
Assist with annual health-related events and staff trainings
Check and maintain campus emergency supplies (AEDs, EpiPens)
Manage and maintain employee health forms
Provide shared on-call services for boarding students and overnight field trips
Facilitate comprehensive care of health needs for boarding students
Ensure the confidentiality of protected health information under HIPAA and FERPA
Qualifications and Requirements:
Licensed practical nurse (LPN) with a current Maryland license
Current American Heart Association approved CPR certification (Adult and Child)
Experience in first aid and emergency management
Desire to work with children and young adults
Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
Knowledge of August Schools and Veracross platforms a plus
Physical Requirements: Daily desk work includes significant amounts of telephone and computer time as well as mobility around the entire campus. This includes frequent walking inside and outside, maneuvering stairs as a part of daily routines. Bending and squatting as required to participate in activities; lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds; and the ability to maneuver as necessary within a regular classroom and office setting.
