The Ramp Agent is responsible for performing a variety of essential tasks on the airport ramp, including the handling of aircraft, baggage, and cargo. This role involves ensuring that all ground handling operations are conducted efficiently, safely, and in accordance with airport policies and industry regulations. The Ramp Agent plays a critical role in facilitating the smooth turnaround of aircraft and supporting overall airport operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Assist with the safe and efficient arrival and departure of aircraft, including parking, towing, and repositioning.
- Perform aircraft servicing tasks such as fueling, lavatory servicing, and water servicing as required.
- Load and unload baggage and cargo from aircraft, ensuring proper handling and placement to prevent damage.
- Operate ground support equipment, including baggage carts, conveyor belts, and tugs, to facilitate the movement of baggage and cargo.
- Ensure accurate tracking of baggage and cargo and coordinate with other ground handling staff to address any issues or discrepancies.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations, including those set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
- Conduct regular safety checks on ground support equipment and report any maintenance needs or safety hazards to the Ramp Supervisor.
- Follow proper protocols for handling hazardous materials and emergency situations.
- Assist in maintaining a smooth and efficient workflow on the ramp, ensuring that all tasks are completed in a timely manner to minimize aircraft turnaround times.
- Communicate effectively with other ramp agents, airline staff, and ground support personnel to coordinate activities and resolve any operational issues.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing and resolving any issues related to baggage or cargo handling.
- Ensure that all interactions with passengers and airline representatives are handled professionally and courteously.
- Maintain accurate records of ramp activities, including baggage and cargo movements, equipment usage, and incidents.
- Report any unusual incidents, delays, or safety concerns to the Ramp Supervisor or Ground Operations Manager.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in ground handling or airport operations preferred, but not required.
- Ability to operate ground support equipment and perform physical tasks, including lifting and carrying heavy items.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and procedures related to ground handling operations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and adapt to changing operational demands.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Ground equipment, computer hardware/software, phones, and radios.
Qualifications
QULAIFICATIONS:
- Must pass a required pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check
- Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
SKILLS:
- Must complete paperwork accurately and have basic computer skills.

- Present a neat professional appearance and demeanor.
- Must be punctual & dependable.
- Must be flexible with scheduling and able to work a variety of shifts to include nights, weekends and holidays.
