What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Scientist position at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute?
Summary:
The Staff Scientist will be working in the Chavez lab and will be learning new technologies, as well as applying existing knowledge to procedures and bench-work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Determines methods and procedures on new assignments or day-to-day work
- Keeps written records of experiments and data organization
- Troubleshoots problems and develops solutions to technical problems of moderate to high scope using independent thinking, literature, and colleagues as resources to solve problems
- Provides interpretation and analysis of results
- Maintains various reagent collections, and inventories
- Coordinates with oncologists, surgeons, and pathologists to obtain tissue from surgery.
- Uses tissue for molecular and cellular analysis, including sequencing, immunostaining, flow cytometry, and high-throughput drug screening.
- Works with computational biologists to analyze data and identifies biomarkers of drug responsiveness.
- Generates xenograft models that can be used for preclinical studies of targeted therapy and immunotherapy.
Education and/or Experience:
- Ph.D. or other advanced degree in a biological science or related field and three years post-Ph.D. or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained is required

Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research projects
Work independently as well as in a team environment
Be responsible and have strong time management skills
Able to analyze and resolve issues of moderate complexity
Possess strong attention to detail and organizational skills

Professional proficiency in Microsoft Office

Compensation:
The expected compensation for this position is between $75,000-90,000/year commensurate with experience.
