Join our Spiritual Care team in a brand new way! This advisor role will support the Sioux Falls market of Sanford Health by cultivating relationships and support across all service lines. This role will demonstrate a strong partnership with our DE&I center of excellence and our dedicated spiritual care team. Provide a key role in educating, promoting and facilitating diversity, equity and inclusion, while engaging spiritual care and encouragement to our employees. As an advisor, this individual will also function as a member of the Spiritual Care team. Duties will include providing a spiritual and relational presence to individuals and teams as needed while implementing Spiritual Care Department programs and initiatives. This position would be shared equally between Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Spiritual Care.

Job Summary
Aims to offer a sense of attentiveness and compassion in the midst of suffering and struggle. Provides spiritual and emotional support during illness, injury, crisis and/or emergency. Performs spiritual care. Demonstrates pastoral care skills while supporting Sanford's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. Assesses patients’/residents' spiritual resources and well-being and encourage the patient/resident and/or family member to utilize his or her own spiritual and religious coping strategies.
This role will support several critical success factors to include demonstrated inspirational leadership capability, leveraging innovation and inclusion with proven skills in effectively developing and executing D,E, & I strategies in a large, complex healthcare organization. Possesses empathy for challenges experienced by patients/residents and families in the medical setting and comfortable with diverse populations of varying ages, cultures and beliefs. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships, serving as a member of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating with other members to develop and provide spiritual support to client and families. Functions effectively in trauma and crisis situations.
Follows the Association of Professional Chaplains Code of Professional Ethics. Effectively documents spiritual care visits in the electronic health record. Addresses the spiritual care referrals and consults in a timely manner. Follows departmental policies and procedures. Demonstrates critical thinking skills under adverse situations in order to respond appropriately to patients/residents and families. Understands one's limits and seeks appropriate guidance and assistance when needed to ensure delivery of adequate care. Communicates appropriately and thoroughly with chaplain colleagues about patient/resident care needs. Attends and participates in department meetings and gatherings. Depending on location, may be required to serve on call as assigned.
Qualifications
Associate Chaplain Qualifications include one of the following:
- Completion of advanced degree in divinity, theology, or its equivalency.
- Ecclesiastical endorsement.
- Minimum of one unit of clinical pastoral education.
- Eligibility for certification in the Association of Professional Chaplains, Catholic Chaplains, or comparable professional organization.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Focus:
Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred.
Minimum five years’ experience in diversity equity and inclusion management, organization development or related field and experience working with diverse, underserved minorities, and/or organizations in complex environments.
