What are the responsibilities and job description for the Team Mascots position at Sanford Mainers?
Summary:
The Sanford Mainers have a proud tradition of providing quality sportsmanship and an exciting family atmosphere. To further enhance this experience for spectators and athletes alike, the organization is seeking responsible individuals to serve as the team’s mascots of Broose and Boomer by bringing a positive and vibrant attitude to the respective roles.
Mascot staff will be responsible for, but not limited to, attending sporting events in costume to entertain fans of all ages, be an uplifting off-field presence to the athletes and staff during games, and serve as a spirited public representative for the Mainers both on and off Goodall Park. The mascots may plan, develop, and implement dance routines, skits, and other activities in collaboration with team management. An individual functioning as the mascot should have the ability to bring the character to life in order to energize the spectators. The chosen candidates will embody the spirit of the organization and will have the physical stamina and enthusiasm to perform for the hours needed.
Responsibilities:
- Perform as the mascot during games and events
- Work with team management to develop and execute new ideas and routines
- Fostering a fun and energetic atmosphere with spectator and at events
- Possess a creative and humorous personality while maintaining a professional demeanor
- Attend community events and represent the team as a positive role model
- Maintain the costume in good condition and inform team management of any repairs or replacements needed
- Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing
- Exhibit strong non-verbal communication skills
Requirements:
- Must be at least 16 years of age and have reliable transportation to and from events
- Available between June 1-August 15, 2025.
- Willing to work extended and/or irregular hours including nights and weekends, both indoors and outdoors
- Previous experience as a Mascot for a sports team or amusement park is preferred, but not required
- Physical stamina and flexibility to perform for extended periods of time, which also includes the ability to climb stairs and stand for prolonged periods of time
- Outgoing and playful personality
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Other Details:
This position is an internship and is event based, primarily during Sanford Mainers home games. Additional events may be required. The candidate must be able to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the organization. Prolonged periods of being in a mascot suit in the summer is involved. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the candidate is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Frequent visual and listening attention is needed.
