About Our School
Sanford High School is located in York County in southern Maine 45 minutes south of Portland and less than 2 hours north of Boston. We are very proud of our state-of-the-art, 360,000 square foot facility that intertwines High School and Vocational programming and includes a Performing Arts Center and athletic complex. We are a comprehensive pathways high school serving over 1,100 students in grades nine through twelve, with a growingly diverse student population that reflects our community. Description :
Sanford High School is seeking a kind, compassionate, student-centered school counselor who thrives working in a collaborative professional atmosphere in a Career Pathways High School. This is a full time opportunity to become part of a dynamic group of educators in the Sanford School Department and work closely with a school counseling staff of 8. This school counselor should understand the domains of the ASCA model and will provide academic, career and social / emotional support for students at Sanford High School. They will work with the ASCA recommended caseload of approximately 250 students. The position includes attending IEP, 504, and Student Assistance Team meetings, facilitating parent / staff meetings as needed, meeting individually and in small groups with students, providing classroom lessons and collaborating with School Counseling staff to implement SHS's part of the K-12 Comprehensive School Counseling Program. The school counselor must have strong interpersonal skills allowing them to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with students, parents, staff, community, colleges and outside agencies. A sense of humor, ability to be flexible, and belief that all students are important is key!
Qualifications :
- Current Maine School Counselor certification #075 (or eligibility);
- Current Maine CHRC (fingerprinting);
- Master's Degree in counseling, education, or a related field (mandatory);
Experience as a school counselor preferred. Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
