What are the responsibilities and job description for the Correctional Officer position at Sangamon County Sheriff's Office?
The Sangamon County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for Sangamon County Corrections Officer positions for immediate openings. Correctional Officers are responsible for day to day operations of the Sangamon County Jail, including inmate observation, transportation, and custodial care; enforcement of facility rules, along with state and federal laws; restrain recalcitrant inmates; respond to emergency situations; write accurate and detailed reports and other documentation.

Sangamon County Corrections Officer Requirements
- Have acquired a high school diploma or equivalent certificate.
- No younger than 21 years of age at the time of appointment. (under 21 may still apply)
- Must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
- Must possess a valid FOID (Firearm Owner’s Identification) card.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must pass a written examination as prescribed by the Merit Commission.
- Must pass a physical standards test.
- Must pass a thorough background investigation including drug testing.
- Must reside within Sangamon County within 6 months of employment.
- Completion of a state mandated 8 week training academy and successfully pass state testing
Sangamon County Corrections Officer Pay and Benefit Information
