Job Overview
Under the direct supervision of the County Clerk. We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Court Clerk to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the judicial process by managing court records, assisting with legal documentation, and providing excellent customer service to court patrons. This position requires strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Maintains and oversees all aspects of civil, domestic, and criminal dockets.
2. Receives new cases for filing.
3. Performs complex data entry to record receipt of case documents, court activity, and other pertinent case information in the building of the Register of Actions.
4. Prepares files for judges to review prior to motion day dockets.
5. Oversees 7 and 21 day proposed orders for signature by the judge.
6. Record and log court proceedings for Circuit Court & Family Division.
7. Utilize and maintain electronic recording equipment in all courtrooms.
8. Prepares and maintains records of audio, video, and court loggings in all courtrooms.
9. Mark and maintain a record of exhibits and provide other assistance to the judge in the courtroom.
10. Maintains jury selection, attendance and payroll.
11. Types, proofreads, certifies, and prepares invoices of official transcripts of hearings as requested.
12. Prepares various legal documents and correspondence; to include judgment of sentence, pretrial release, and bond orders for criminal and domestic cases.
13. Conduct background checks for the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Armed Forces.
14. Various reporting as follows:
· Records of Divorce submitted to the State monthly.
· Order of Filiation submitted to the State as necessary.
· Maintain quarterly caseload report and submit to the State annually.
· Send quarterly criminal caseload reports to the Indigent Defense Coordinator.
· Run non-service report weekly. Submit case dismissals as necessary.
· Report abstract files at time of plea or sentencing to the State.
· Judgment of Sentence reports to Michigan State Police.
· Abstract reporting certification to Michigan Department of State Driving Record Division.
15. Manages criminal set aside reporting and maintains files accordingly.
16. Responds to in-person and phone inquiries from litigants, attorneys, and agencies regarding scheduling matters, court procedures, and addressing complaints and concerns.
17. Provide assistance to the public at the counter regarding all aspects of the office.
18. Liaison to Circuit Court staff.
19. Liaison to the Sanilac County Sheriff’s Department regarding Judgment of sentence and Pretrial Release.
20. Liaison to the Prosecutor’s Office.
21. Liaison to the Court of Appeals regarding appeal filings.
22. Collaborates with the Circuit Court Judge and Circuit Court staff in reviewing and monitoring changes in statutes and court rules.
23. Collaborates with other county clerk’s offices and courts regarding transfer files.
24. Oversees the filing of all legal documents, and ensures the proper custody, maintenance, storage, and disposal of court records in accordance with applicable court rules, statutes, and approved records retention.
Incidental Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Required to be certified as a Court Recorder.
2. Issuance of vital records, accepting applications, photos, receipting and processing credit card payments.
3. Serves as a Judicial Information System Coordinator.
4. Performs a wide variety of other duties as assigned.
5. Assists with the training of new employees.
6. Deputized and approved in accordance with MCL 50.63.

Qualifications & Skills:
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Experience: A minimum two (2) year of experience in a legal office or related field.
· Intense attention to detail.
· Thorough knowledge of court and legal procedures, legal terminology, and legal forms. Ability to make decisions according to established procedures, policies, and court rules.
· Ability to use discretion and maintain sensitive and confidential information.
· Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

· Visual acuity to handle long periods of computer work.
· Push or pull carts.
· Lift, move, or carry objects, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
· Sit, bend, stoop, crouch, and climb.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.49 - $23.08 per hour
Expected hours: 37.5 per week
