What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Technician position at Sanitary District of Decatur?
Under general supervision of the Information Systems Manger performs work in the operation, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical and instrumentation equipment.
Work is primarily instrumentation and automated process control in nature but may include some electrical and mechanical duties. Work assignments include preventative and predictive maintenance tasks, performance testing of electrical equipment and systems, installation of electrical components and control circuits and troubleshooting and corrective maintenance tasks on electrical equipment and systems. Work at this level includes some training of less experienced workers.
Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned)
Performs all duties included in the E&I Technician description and performs standard written procedures and/or oral directives as assigned by performing both skilled and semi-skilled manual work skilled and semi-skilled electrical work and skilled and semi-skilled technical work.
Performs mostly non-routine and some routine maintenance of the instrumentation equipment related to the district facilities.
Installs conduit and pulls wire for motors, control panels, lighting fixtures, outlets, and other purposes; lays out, installs, aligns, and places into service new metering and recording devices, calibrating as required; may extend or connect related electrical circuits; makes cable splices of various sizes and difficulty as required.
Removes, installs, reconditions, repairs and calibrates instrumentation equipment.
Troubleshoots programs for Programable Logic Controllers (PLC), variable frequency drives (VFD), soft starts, modems, Motor Control Centers (MCC) and motor starters for new and existing installations.
Modifies programs for PLCs, VFDs, soft starts, modems, MCCs and motor starters for new and existing installations after supervisor or SCADA integrator review of proposed changes.
Requisitions necessary repair and/or replacement parts and components.
Performs root cause analysis on repetitive and catastrophic electrical equipment and system failures.
Works independently or as part of a team project effort, depending on area of assignment.

Education and Experience:
Must have a high School or General Education Diploma (GED) with a minimum of six years of experience in comparable work
Must have completed training to include basic concepts and terminology used with ControlLogix hardware, Logic 5000, diagnostic, troubleshooting problems including confirming issues, performing hands-on exercises, start-up and configuration of PowerFlex or equivalent training at managements discretion that meets changing technology.
Must have thorough knowledge of all safety related job procedures including Lock out Tag Out, NFPA 70E arc flash
Industrial electrical hands-on experience installing and troubleshooting, including 480V 3-phase, 220V, 110V, 24V and 12V motor control systems.
Must have training or certification for programing PLCs, VFDs, soft starts, modems, MCCs and motor starters
