LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under supervision of the credentialed school nurse and/or designee, perform specialized health services for students in regular education and special education programs. Communicate with parents, school site, and District personnel on health related matters. Assist with medical screening of students, disseminate health information, and provide appropriate medical care.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Perform appropriate medical procedures for the specialized and every day health needs of students. E
Perform specialized health services to students including but not limited to toileting assistance, catheterization, gavage feeding, ostomy care, suctioning, and medications. E
Provide emergency medical care in the event of serious illness or accident. E
Assist in providing appropriate health instruction to students, school staff, and parents. E
Maintain school health records. E
Coordinate necessary health conferences with parents, staff, and community resources. E
Coordinate services with the medical community for students’ medical, health, and educational needs. E
Prepare reports for District, county, and State agencies. E
Order and maintain supplies for school health office. E
Assist and maintain a neat, clean, and orderly health office. E
Provide support and act as resources for all schools and District staff. E
Administer medication including insulin as appropriate and pursuant to physician’s instructions. E
Assist students to develop self-control and self-esteem. E
Plan and organize health clinics and assist in the development of health-related newsletters for students, staff, parents, and community. E
Maintain professional competence through continuing education course work or experience. E
Participate in the coordination of services pursuant to Individualized Education Programs (IEP), 504 Plans, Student Success Team Plans (SST), and other intervention plans. E
Perform other related duties as required. E

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A high school diploma and successful completion of a Licensed Vocational Nurse Program is required. Nursing experience in a hospital, clinic, or school environment dealing with school-age children is highly desirable.
License/Certificate Requirement:
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
Possession of a Licensed Vocational Nurse Certificate.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENT:
Driving a vehicle to conduct work.

Some outdoor playground and field trip environment.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
