PLANT CUSTODIAN-ELEMENTARY
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the principal or a designee, plan, supervise, direct and participate in plant custodial and minor maintenance work at an elementary school or other similar site, with primary responsibility for the overall operation of the plant to which assigned.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Confer with principal on problems. E
Open and close campus facility; lock and unlock gates and doors, turn lights off and on; raise and lower flag; lock and unlock bicycle compound gate. E
Monitor heating and air conditioning, plumbing, fire alarm and security system to assure correct operation. E
Clean exterior walks and yard; pick up paper and trash. E
Replace light bulbs and tubes; clean and disinfect rest rooms; clean carpet. E
Perform semi_skilled painting, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating, glazing, and grounds maintenance. E
Clean, vacuum, dust, sweep and mop surfaces such as windows, walks, chalkboards, floors, sidewalks, lunch areas and grounds. E
Operate heating, ventilating, lighting and pumping equipment. E
Obtain needed parts and make minor repairs to sinks, toilets, door locks, switches, lights and other items as needed. E
Direct opening and closing of buildings and rooms to accommodate needs of the instructional program, authorized meetings, social and civic activities. E
Initiate requests for District maintenance staff assistance for major and unusual repairs. E
Direct the placement of furniture and equipment to accommodate needs of the instructional program. E
Assure plant security is maintained; assist with fire and disaster drills. E
Prepare laundry for pick up; read meters as necessary. E
Order equipment and custodial supplies as needed. E
Investigate and report burglaries and vandalism. E
Assist District maintenance staff with major repairs.
Assist in routine grounds maintenance.
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Correct methods, materials and approved procedures related to institutional housekeeping, grounds maintenance, and semi_skilled plant maintenance activities.
Health and safety regulations.
Tools and equipment required for minor maintenance and custodial duties. School District rules on facilities use.

Plan, direct, supervise and perform plant maintenance, custodial and grounds maintenance services.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of experience in performing school custodial work.

Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects, normally not exceeding sixty (60) pounds.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
Seeing to perform custodial work and read materials.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate custodial equipment.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.

Cleaning chemicals.
