Under the direction of the Mechanical Supervisor, maintain swimming pools and related areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
Job Description / Essential Elements :

POOL MAINTENANCE WORKER
BASIC FUNCTION :
Under the direction of the Mechanical Supervisor, maintain swimming pools and related areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES :
Brush and vacuum pools on a regular basis; clean tile, pool deck and walk. E
Conduct chemical tests of water. E
Check pressure gauges and mechanical equipment to assure proper functioning. E
Check water temperature and regulate as necessary. E
Record and adjust the chlorine levels and acidity of water on a regular basis. E
Maintain filters, backwash and pump equipment. E
Perform minor mechanical repairs on pool equipment as necessary. E
Drain and perform acid washes of swimming pools. E
Perform preventive maintenance on pool equipment. E
Maintain records as necessary. E
Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES :
KNOWLEDGE OF :
Methods, materials and equipment involved in maintenance and operation of swimming pools.
Health and safety regulations.
Basic plumbing and electrical methods.
ABILITY TO :
Operate and maintain pools and related equipment in accordance with prescribed standards.
Communicate effectively with others.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Perform manual maintenance and cleaning services for pools and related areas.
Work cooperatively with others.

Maintain records and prepare reports.
Lift heavy objects.
Perform the essential functions of the job.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school, including successful completion of an approved course in pool maintenance and one year of experience in the operation and maintenance of swimming pools.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS :
Valid California driver's license.
WORKING CONDITIONS : ENVIRONMENT :
Pool areas and equipment room.
Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES :
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned maintenance equipment.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
Seeing to perform maintenance activities, read materials and drive a vehicle.
Lifting and carrying moderately heavy objects, not normally exceeding sixty (60) pounds.
HAZARDS :
Electrical equipment.
Exposure to chlorine and related chemicals.
