Basic Functions
Essential Functions of Position
Provide quality instructions, create and maintain an environment which emphasizes teaching and learning and encourages free discussion of ideas, interests and issues.
Primary duties of part-time faculty members are related to curriculum and teaching; the assignment is divided between lecture and lab classes as determined by the department. Part-Time instructional faculty are required to be available to students outside of class.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Laboratory experience in human anatomy that includes work with cadavers.Experience in teaching human anatomy and physiology concepts at the undergraduate level.Competent use of computer, multimedia equipment, and software to foster innovative teaching and learning environments that increase student success and enrich departmental programs.Commitment to pedagogies that consider various learning styles and diverse cultural, ethnic, gender, socioeconomic, academic, and disability backgrounds.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:Teaching experience in anatomy, physiology, and general biology utilizing instructional strategies that promote inclusivity and thus facilitate student learning.Laboratory expertise in Human Physiology and familiarity with computer-based physiology programs such as Biopac.Experience in developing distance education courses and teaching in an online format.Demonstrated experience using strategies and methods that enhance student learning and success.Knowledge of and experience using Student Learning Outcomes to support student learning.
Part-Time Faculty SalaryThe starting credit part-time faculty rate from salary table 11 is $102.90 per hour-Lecture and $82.33 per hour-Lab. If you have a doctorate degree, the rate is $107.87 per hour-Lecture and $86.30 per hour-Lab.
Education and Experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.
Master's in any biological scienceORBachelor's in any biological scienceANDMaster's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine scienceORThe equivalent. A combination of education and other accomplishments that is equivalent to the above. (If claiming equivalency, attach a separate statement that presents the basis for this claim and submit supporting evidence, e.g., transcripts, publications and other work products.)ORPossession of a lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in Biological Sciences AND a Master's degree.ANDEvidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, culture, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.

Selection Procedure:
The selection committee, who will recommend candidates for personal interviews at SBCC, will initially review online applications. A teaching demonstration will be required for selected applicants. After the initial interviews have been conducted, the committee will recommend the top candidates to the Superintendent/President for a final interview. The successful candidate's name will then be presented to the Board of Trustees for final approval and authorization to hire. Candidates will participate primarily in remote interviews and in some instances final interviews may be conducted in person while observing all health and safety protocols as approved by the Santa Barbara County Health Department.
