POSITION OVERVIEW

Full-time, Exempt, Non-Represented Staff Position Night Shift 4:30 pm – 1:00 am

The Fleet Supervisor I is responsible for assisting the Fleet and Facilities Manager in leading a team of utility and service workers, and department staff, in the day-to-day operations of the Maintenance Department, with a focus on bus cleaning, bus fueling and other servicing of MTD’s revenue and non-revenue fleets.

To be successful in this role you will bring excellent leadership and team building skills, along with the ability to effectively organize work, establish priorities, and complete assignments within tight deadlines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential functions may include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor comprehensive bus cleanliness plan
  • Train and mentor utility and service workers on proper bus servicing of vehicles, deep cleans, minor cleans, and daily cleanliness
  • Plan, organize, schedule, and assign fueling, vaulting, and cleaning activities for MTD’s fleet
  • Supervise utility and service worker team and provide guidance and assistance in such areas as safety, performance, and productivity
  • Monitor quality of work and productivity through spots checks and scheduled inspections 
  • Identify areas for improvement and develop action plan to improve bus cleanliness and bus servicing practices
  • Provide related reports for bus cleanliness activities and programs
  • Notify Chief Safety Officer and department manager of all observed safety hazards and/or adverse conditions of existing safety equipment, and take action to correct unsafe conditions as needed or directed
  • Understand, remain knowledgeable of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations that affect service operations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA and EPA, in coordination with department manager
  • Comply with the drug testing provisions for safety-sensitive classifications as required by the Department of Transportation, MTD’s Drug and Alcohol Testing policy, and MTD’s Drug Free Workplace policy
  • Oversee fare box vaulting operations

QUALIFICATIONS:

To successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position, the ideal candidate must have the following:

Knowledge & Skills 

  • Demonstrated ability in supervising/leading teams, employee motivation and engagement, and progressive discipline
  • Foster positive work environment with diverse groups and maintain good working relationships with co-workers
  • Effective communication skills in both oral and written form
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and ability to learn and use computer-based Fleet Maintenance Software

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or GED, or any combination of education, including Trade School Certification, and experience to fulfill the duties of the position
  • One (1) year of supervisory/team lead experience in fleet servicing or a closely related field

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience in public sector, and transportation or transit specifically
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES

  • Possession of a California Class C driver’s license. Clean driving record required

SELECTION PROCESS

The process includes a job specific pre-employment physical and drug screening under Department of Transportation regulations to be completed by an industrial health clinic of MTD’s choice, criminal background screen and verification of employment. All offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of the pre-employment process.
