Purpose of Position : Under the supervision of the Director of Fiscal Services, coordinate complex professional accounting responsibilities and processes related to the establishment, maintenance, reconciliation and reporting of financial and statistical records and report of payroll.
Reporting : Reports to the Director of Fiscal Services
Employment Status : Full-time (FLSA Non-exempt)

Essential Functions :
Compile data and prepare regular or special financial statements, records or reports.
Prepare financial documents for management approval to be posted to the general ledger and the county treasury.
Assist with fiscal year end activities, including reconciling accounts and adjustments to the general ledger, analysis and posting of expenditure and revenue accruals, and their reversals.
Perform complex accounting tasks that post and reconcile all aspects of payroll to the general ledger and the budget.
Prepare monthly detailed cash flow reports from general ledger activity.
Perform detailed reconciliations of all district cash bank accounts and cash funds to the county treasury monthly, including the preparation of adjusting journal entries to the general ledger.
Assist with development and implementation of accounting processes and procedures to achieve maximum efficiencies in the MUNIS ERP system.
Analyze processes, procedures or systems and make recommendations for improvement.
Assist the internal auditor with preparation of schedules, reports and data requested by external auditors, including retirement system and health and welfare benefit audits.
Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.
Other Functions :
Perform related duties as assigned.
Serve as backup for related accounting and budget positions.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands :
Indoor work environment. Some travel between district schools and facilities.
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone, seeing to read a variety of documents, sitting for extended periods of time, walking, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office equipment, intermittent bending, stooping or reaching overhead to retrieve or store materials, driving a vehicle to conduct business activities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, particularly as they apply in a K-12 public education environment. Prior experience in a CA K-12 public school district is desirable.
Working knowledge of computer-based enterprise accounting systems, along with advanced skill with MS Excel, Google applications, and other commonly used accounting platforms.
Working knowledge of public school district organization, operations, policies and objectives.
Ability to train and provide work direction to others.
Ability to produce detailed financial reports and reconciliations for management.
Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with district staff, consultants, vendors and others to achieve assigned objectives.
Ability to compile and report complex financial data in an understandable manner.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Education, training and experience :
Bachelor's or Associate's degree with emphasis in accounting, business administration or financial management, and / or one (1) to five (5) years of responsible accounting or finance experience, preferably in a public sector environment. California Certified Public Accountant certification desirable.
