Position Summary
Santa Catalina School, a nationally recognized PreK-12 independent, Catholic school in Monterey, California seeks seasonal summer camp counselors for Summer at Santa Catalina. Summer at Santa Catalina serves 300 plus girls through day and resident summer camp programming from June to August. This position requires a positive role model who can build relationships with campers and their families, lead various games, and oversee free play and activities.
Program counselors report to the Director of Summer at Santa Catalina, caring for and supervising girls grades 2-10 during summer camp, and providing program support for Summer at Santa Catalina.

Description
Program counselors work on the program team to support the logistics, operations, and facilitation of all camper activities. This position directly supports camp programming needs, and together the program team works to provide engaging, fun, supportive, and unique programming that supports the positive and inclusive girl community. Program counselors assist with general camp administrative needs, including office duty, daily camper sign-in/sign-out, camper group coverage, and running meals. Program counselors lead, teach, and assist various classes, games, and activities for camper groups and provide residential duty support as needed. All members of the counselor team are expected to be positive role models for campers and be active, contributing members of the overall camp counselor team.
Essential Responsibilities
- Supervise and care for campers during the camp day
- Assist counselors with residential duties, including supervising meals, rest, and evening dorm time
- Teach and assist in camp classes as assigned
- Accompany and supervise campers during field trips
- Set up, organize, and clean up camp programs and program supplies
- Assist in facilitating camp programs for large and small groups
- Facilitate and participate in community building activities, theme days, camp songs, games, and more
- Assist staff to provide social-emotional learning support to campers, such as conflict resolution, homesickness support, and more
- Manage camper behavior individually and in groups positively and consistently
- Facilitate relationship-building between campers and groups
- Manage risk throughout camp activities on and off campus
- Assist in administrative needs to support program activities such as maintaining daily attendance and accountability records
- Learn, follow, and explain camp rules, regulations, policies, and daily practices regarding the Summer at Santa Catalina program operation
- Help maintain and organize program supplies and spaces

Qualifications
- Must be available for the entirety of staff training (June 14-20), and a minimum of 2 weeks June 22-August 1
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- At least 1 year of youth experience and leading experiential activities preferred
- Strong passion for working with youth and enthusiastic about empowering young women
- A commitment to the mission and identity of Santa Catalina School
- A desire to participate fully in the Summer at Santa Catalina community
- Successful completion of a LiveScan criminal background check as required by law
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus

Working Conditions and Compensation
- Ability to work actively with campers of varying ages, abilities, and backgrounds
- Ability to work in various positions, including, but not limited to, standing, bending over, crouching, sitting, reaching, driving (a cart) for extended periods, and needing to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in a school environment with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and people
- Salary Range: $565-$580/week
