Position Title: Court Monitor
Department: Tribal Court
Supervisor Title: Chief Judge
Salary: D.O.E.


Position Summary:
Monitors probationers. Monitors compliance with Court Orders. Notifies the Chief Judge of
non-compliance with the written Court Orders or Bench Orders. Refers parties to service
agencies or departments. Acts as liaison to the service agencies or departments. Tracks active
cases. Breaches of confidentiality may lead to immediate termination.
The Court Monitor may also be assigned to learn, and perform, tasks of other Court staff.
This job description does not include all duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 The Court Monitor is responsible for monitoring probationers according to their probation
orders.
 The Court Monitor is responsible for monitoring compliance with Orders.
 Orders may be written or oral (Bench Orders).
 Orders are issued in criminal, civil and juvenile cases.
 Orders range from the requirements when a person is released on their own recognizance
pending further Court proceedings, to probation requirements to child custody requirements
to probate requirements.
 The Court Monitor shall maintain a directory with the contact information for service
agencies or departments so that the party may successfully meet the requirements of the
Orders.
 The Court Monitor shall refer parties to service agencies or departments.
 The Court Monitor shall act as a liaison, if needed, with the service agencies or departments.
 The Court Monitor shall conduct on-site visits to service agencies or departments to tailor the
referrals to the party.
 In criminal, or juvenile, cases, the Court Monitor may conduct alcohol and/or and urinalyses
testing.
 Within 24 hours of noncompliance with a provision in an Order, the Court Monitor shall
submit a written memo to the Chief Judge
 The written memo shall allege noncompliance and list the Tribal Code Section and/or
paragraph in the Order that was allegedly violated.
 In the event of an emergency, the Court Monitor shall immediately notify the Chief Judge.
 In emergencies involving a crime or the need to protect the elderly or a minor, the Court
Monitor shall immediately notify the Tribal Police.
 With Court Administrator, the Court Monitor officer coordinates placement/release in
residential treatment/counseling facilities and incarceration facilities.
 Interacts, as needed, with Courts in other jurisdictions.
 Knows and understands Pueblo civil and criminal jurisdiction.
 Maintains a weekly probation/exclusion list for Chief Judge, Court, Tribal Police.
 In the absence of the Chief Judge, the Court Monitor may be required to follow the directions of the Court Administrator or a Tribal Judge.

Abilities Required:
 Commitment, communication, confidentiality, initiative, adaptability to stressful situations and difficult interpersonal interactions, and accountability.
 Willingness to learn all court duties as assigned.

Specific skills:
 Operational knowledge and ability to use Word, Sleuth, Outlook Express, Payday HCM, Lexis, Excel, all Microsoft Office, DocuSign, Liberty Recording System, Elmo, Multiline Mitel Telephone System, My Passport Hard drive backup system.
 In the event that the applicant requires training in these systems, they shall present a detailed training schedule to the Chief Judge and successfully complete all training within six months of employment.
 Acquaintance with Tribal Code Sections: Title 1-General Provisions; Title VI-Tribal Judiciary; Title VII-Trial and Appellate Procedure; Title VIII-Law Enforcement; Title IX-Criminal Code; Title XI-Children's Code; Title XII-Civil Actions; Title XIII-Wills, Probate; Title XIV-Family Law; Title XXII-SDVCJ Code.
 Knowledge of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and the Special Domestic Violence Criminal Jurisdiction (SDVCJ).
 In the event that the applicant does not have an acquaintance with the listed Tribal Code Sections, VAWA and the SDVCJ, they shall present a detailed training schedule to the Chief Judge and successfully complete all training within six months of employment.

Minimum Qualifications:
 AA degree in law enforcement, psychology, sociology, social work, counseling or related fields plus one year of experience in the above areas; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 Must have a valid New Mexico Driver's License and be insurable under the tribe's insurance carrier.
 Must not have any DUI/DWI convictions within a five (5) year timeframe from any Tribal, State, or Federal Court.
 Must pass a mandatory background check.
 Must pass drug/alcohol screening.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the Court Monitor is regularly required to talk/hear, type and operate a computer and cellphone. While working on-site, the employee may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision,

peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. The Monitor may be required to telework from home.
