Associates / trainees are assigned to two or more days at school site / s for the duration of the academic year. Students are seen individually and / or in small groups. Students are referred by school staff for a variety of concerns; most are referred for behavior problems at school. Associates / trainees have limited contact with students' parents by phone or at school. Associates / trainees are expected to work closely with teachers and school staff as a member of the school site support team and as a consultant to staff.Education / Qualifications : A Master's degree in Counseling or Social Work is required. Coursework in child development and therapy with children and adolescents is preferred but not required. Candidates must have an Associate number issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (CABBS). Associates / trainees should have the skills to work independently with students and as a team member with teachers, parents, and support staff. Trainees will be matched with clients based on their previous experience. Experience working with children and / or adolescents is preferred and not required.Training : Associates / trainees are assigned to a supervisor in September and receive weekly group supervision. Additional supervision is provided as needed to meet CABBS requirements for associates / trainees. Associates / trainees meet as a group bi-monthly and receive in-service on topics such as child abuse reporting, crisis intervention, school-based counseling, behavioral support and other topics. Associates / trainees are encouraged to develop their own theoretical orientation.
