This position requires the candidate to have completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education OR the ability to demonstrate, through a formal local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading, writing and mathematics (or readiness in those subjects, as appropriate).
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, the Paraeducator Special Ed - Itinerant assists a certificated teacher in providing instruction to individuals or groups of students placed in special education programs and/or general education classrooms because of specific learning disabilities, severe emotional and behavioral issues, orthopedic disabilities and/or other limiting conditions; monitors and reports student progress regarding behavior and performance; and performs a variety of clerical and instructional duties in support of the instructional program as required by the disabling/limiting condition(s) of the student and according to established Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
This is a non-site-specific paraprofessional position working with varying types and severity of disabilities within different grade levels and programs. Depending on the need(s) of the student(s), this person assists in classroom preparation and may assist with student personal hygiene and toileting; monitors and collects data on student's daily performance; and provides behavior support. A travel stipend is included.
Qualifications: Equivalent to graduation from high school and at least 3 years experience working in a special education program or setting required. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary, as well as good oral and written communication skills are essential.
